Data transfers-slow

over the past few days,my comp has become too slow and data transfers take a lot of time(50 mins for around 1 gb),i have removed all detected viruses with kaspersky 7.0
i wanted to know if there is any software to fix this problem.

my system configuration isnt that bad too:
OS:XP professional sp2
1GB DDR ram
seagate 80GB SATA
