converting video to amv

I just got a local mp3 player 1 gb capability to play wma, mps, show jpg photos and play amv video. Is there an utility in linux to convert vcds (dat files) to amv?

Tried anything with mencoder? Google suggests it can but can't find anything definite.

Thanks mehulved for your reply. I did a search for AMV Convert Tool 3.68 since that name was in the manual and got the download link. guess I just had to boot into windows to use that. I could have used vmware though. Works like a charm. A 600 mb file got converted in like 5 minutes. Works on my player too.

But my player said it plays wmv files too. Doesn't play though. Maybe i will post a shot of the player tomorrow on my blog.
