u can check in device manager under USB controllers. If there is Enhanced Host controller written then u have USB 2.0 else 1.1.

I converted from USB 1.1 to 2.0, i week b4, it was a LIGHT WAVE USB 2.0 card, working fine, costs 25 dhs (Appr 300 Rs) , no idea about the prices in India.

Going green anyone?
In device manager under USB controllers, if there is entry like USB2 root hub, then you have USB2. In my computer Mobo, such is not shown, but I still have USB2. The answer lies in my mobo setup where there is an option that says - enable USB2 when connected to a USB2 device. This option has to be enabled. Else go for a USB2 card - they are very cheap.

It is not going to give you the speed of USB-2. Since it is a PCI card PCI speed will be the barrier. Still it should be better than USB-1

If ur mobo has USB v1.1 built in .. then u should use the PCi add-in USB2.0 card ..... which should give u four v2.0 USB ports ...

janitha - When I connect a USB2 HDD to my PC I get transfer speeds in excess of 8 MBps (not to be confused with Mbps) which is not possible in a USB1.1 device where the max transfer speed will be theoretically ~1.1 MBps (or 12 Mbps). Theoretical maximums are impossible to achieve in the real world. btw my USB2 is in the mobo & not on a PCI card.
kalpik - sorry friend, as pointed out by TechGuru#1, USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps.

Mbps.

Yes, like myself getting 60MBps for my SATA 2 disk in place of the theoretical 300.
