connecting two pc in lan

can anyone tell me how can i connect two pc in lan . i m using winxp os in both amd both has onboard ethernet card .i directly connect it with rj45 cable but in that case it shows that connection is connected with 100mbps but when i try to open other pc in workspace it takes to much time and hang ..he,lp

Are you using a crossover cable to connect the 2PC's directly

IF yes
Have you Pinged the PC's to check if they are accessible to each other.

Enter IP Settings as follows in in the TCP/IP for both lan cards.

PC1
IP: 198.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
No value for Gateway

PC2
IP: 198.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
No value for Gateway

Try and let us know.

both two pc are seen in my workgroup . but other pc cant b accessed ... sometime it shows error like" network path is not accessible you might not have pemission " like that . i tried by login as administrator also but same error!!!

im workin on a complete guide
that ones quite incomplete
as soon as bat gets back .. ill get to work

anyways u need to activate simple file sharing on both pcs
which os's are u using on either pc ?

I believe its either a firewall problem or that the resources are not shared.
Do you have any firewall on each pc?If so then disable them.Also make sure that the windows firewall is also disabled.
Have you shared any resources?By checking the folder properties make sure you share the folder by giving it appropriate permissions.

no i havnt any firewal. now i hav got both pc connected . but speed is tooooo low .. can it be increased???
