Connecting my laptop nd pc

Hello everyone i need some help in connecting my laptop nd pc both runnin on XP have got this cross connected wire nd done with the ip too but still not able to get the result or share any file plz help me with this nd can anyone just help me thru IM

Try disabling the firewall on both systems.
Also have u enabled file and printer sharing ?
And are u able to ping both systems fom other one ??

i am unable to ping frm both the ends....only frm one end...turned off the firewall nd shared all d drives is der any prb or shuld i try something else....or maybe has the vendor not given me d proper cable?

create a new network connection from "my network places" or sumthn first... then hook up both the systems... thats how it works i guess...
then, as hemant sed, enable file n printer sharing on both connections, see if the connection gets established... if nuthn works, change the cable... and if it still duznt work, get some local engineer...

Can anyoen tell me anyother ways to connect my pc.....or help me by using this cable....as i really want to transfer some files...nd need help
