connecting a desktop sata hdd to laptop ???

hi

my desktop power supply was damaged yesterday. so am unable to run it. i have some important files on my hdd which are required urgently. so is it possible to connect the desktop hdd to my laptop chipset sata slot for transfering the data.

i have a 250gb hdd seagate sata which is to be connected to my laptop dell inspiron 1420. so will it work ? ? i need to transfer some files and so need to connect it for a small amount of time only. if it can be done, is it advisable to do so??

Dont know much but you can get an enclosure. Its about 600 bucks. I am using a Sata HDD in an enclosure via USB.

But I had to format it so that might not work. Why not connect it to a friends desktop and copy the data?
