brijraj

Right off the assembly line
1. What is the purpose of the computer?
A: hd movies, very casual gamer, songs. i want a fast boot up,no irritating lags when using any general software

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products?
A:yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
A:30k

4. Planning to overclock?
A:no because havn't felt the need to/don't know anything about it

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: primarily ubuntu 11.04, dual boot with win 7 working as a backup

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 1 tb

7. monitor
A: own a benq e2200hd. plan to run it at full hd resolution

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10?
A:used to be a computer buff, unfortunately out of touch for the last 4 years.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before?
A:6 or 7 times (used to do it for friends as well, but not in the last 4 yrs)

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A:as soon as i know what to buy AND its available

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A:yes.i used my last pc for 5 years.hope to use the new one for the same time. in fact, that is why i'm buying an i5,otherwise an amd xII system would do perfectly what i need to do.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A:delhi. no, i dont want to shop from other cities

my intended configuration until now is:

Processor - Intel i5 - 2500
Motherboard - h67 chipset, havn't decided which
PC Chassis - some cheap one, not costing above 1k
PSU - corsair vx 450
Ram - Corsair / Kingston 2 X 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz
Internal Storage - WD 7200 rpm 1TB

gpu- to be brought later when i have the money (hopefully in the next two months)-ATI Radeon HD5770

i already have kb,mouse,500 kva apc ups, speakers, buffalo external dvd writer

well, i wanted to ask a couple of questions
1. mobo- (i)what is the difference bw intel dh67bl and dh67cl apart from the form factor? (cl is not available at my dealer)

(ii)should i go for the cheaper intel boards/cheaper asus (h67 le, lx) board or invest 2k more for a better board? i'm a student and cannot overshoot the budget so i'll cut the 8gb ram to 4gb if i spend more here

2.ram- (i)is there a difference bw corsair and kingston "value" rams and their vengeance and hyperx series except for their flashy looks (even their latencies seem to be similar)

(ii)why go for a 1666Mhz ram as suggested by many people in the forums while h67 doesnt even support 1666MHz.the 1333MHz value rams are Rs.600 cheaper per 4gb

3.my ups is apc 500 kva. is it necessary to upgrade? does it have issues with corsair PSUs? i read this in another thread but the matter was not resolved satisfactorily there.

any help would be much appreciated, specially for the mobo

Human Spambot
Intel i5-2500 -- 10k
Intel DH67BL -- 5.7k
Corsair 4GB*2 DDR3 -- 4.5k
WDC Blue 1TB -- 2.6k
Corsair VX-450 -- 3.5k
CM Elite 310 / NZXT GAMMA -- 1.5k / 2k
Total --- 27.8k / 28.3k

1. There is no difference between BL and CL except the later has additional two PCI slots.

2.i- If Corsair is available then go for it. Else Kingston will also do fine.
ii- Better go with 1333MHz RAM as H67 can't use 1666MHz and so it will clockdown to 1333MHz.

3. If your UPS is giving good backup i.e atleast for 5-10mins, then no problem. Else you can change your UPS as u have still some cash left.

Right off the assembly line
the prices i'm getting in nehru place in delhi are a bit inflated.almost every product is costing me Rs.400-Rs.700 more (including tax), pushing my budget to almost exact 30.

can anyone please suggest whether i should get intel dh67bl or asus p8p67-le/lx. or should i scrap the extra 4gb ram and go for asus p8h67pro/evo?
i'm not a serious gamer and want all my components to last me 5 yrs in the delhi heat even if i leave the PC on overnight for downloading a torrent or something.
