Hi All,

I have a desktop PC whose config is like this:
Celeron CPU,128 MB RAM,845 Gigabyte Chipset, a CDROM, a 40 GB ATA Seagate Harddisk, 15" CRT Monitor....
i have dualboot Win XP + Linux
It did not gave any problems since 2006
The problem i'm facing for few days is that whenever i switch on the PC after passing thru BIOS and bootloader selection it shutsdown abruptly...i have not changed any hardware/software recently.

Please help me pinpoint the problem.

Thanks & Regards

I think the ur boot config is corrupted. Try a clean install of windows first, also check if any wire is loose in the motherboard, especially PATA ports.

try with a linux live cd/pen drive.if successful then next check your hard disk for errors using seagate bootable hard disk checking cd.

i doubt his board supports booting via usb, its pretty old
live CD is his best bet.

run the memtest, or if you can somehow get to windows (safe mode will do)
type "chkdsk <volume label> /F"
where volume label is C,D,E, etc

give us full details of your system (including psu)

try these steps, in order :
change PSU
remove the ram and try to boot, if it beeps a lot, fine.
check if the cpu fan works (i have no idea if celerons even have one, so this is a hunch)

you might have a psu/ram/heating problem, if you cant get to bios

did your pc BSOD or have a kernel panic(kinda like BSOD of linux) recently/frequently???

also, clean out the cabinet, if it has dust, as dust may short/clog the parts
