Hi guys!

Talks of changing your mobile service provider without changing your mobile number has been going on sice a year or so. Today I just came to know from one f my friend that TRAI has finally passed this rule and shall be applicable from 1st April 2007. I dont know how true is it.

So guys, please confirm weather or not this has any weight...

Well i still doubt the feasibility of this as i don't the service providers had expected this to happen and hence they might nt be able to provide the facility so early....
also i dunno if this news is fake as TRAI too ws nt in favor of this for mobiles..

What you've heard is wrong. TRAI recommended MNP (Mobile Number Portability) back in March 2006 and last month DOT rejected it citing the reason that the telecom companies donot have infrastructure yet.

I wrote about MNP some time back on my blog .. ..

Yeah DOT rejected after consulting all the mobile operators...
U are totally correct shahab tht they recommnded MNP but later landline number portability was wat TRAI was pushing for, not for MNP coz operators were totally against it due to high infrastructure costs...

April Fools day. Nice watch.

I never realised this but I never thought about it that way. I actually heard it from one of my friend and I dont think that even he had such intentions. As such, most of the new things start in the new financial year and fortunately or unfortunately, it starts with a April Fool day.

I did not mean to say that you were fooling us. It is TRAI and the service providers whom I am pointing.

Now you change service provider without changing your Mobile Number.

Department of Telecom has issued a notification stating that long awaited Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will finally be available by September 20.This means you will be able to shift your telecom service providers without having to change your numbers just by paying a small fee.

it came in the news that this will happen, i think september 20 is the correct date...

in first phase it will be in Tier 1 cities like mumbai, delhi, ahmedabad, bangalore, hyderabad., etc...
by 1 april 2010 it will be all over india..

and get this, TRAI will be the one who will decide the charges...

I asked at the Aircel Gallery a week ago. They said that the feature would only be implemented if the TRAI makes it mandatory.

The ruling is expected in mid August.

Given that DOT is yet to roll out 3G proprerly, i would'nt get my hopes up.
