hi people, i have a huge collection of cds (software, songs, movies, etc). over the years it's become difficult to keep track of what resides where. pls suggest me a good software that will automaticcally create an index of contents of each cd and also allow me to search it. is there something which will allow to create an index irrespective of type of data on disk (software, songs, movies, etc).

thanks in advance.

WhereIsIt is an application written for 32-bit Windows operating systems, designed to help you maintain and organize a catalog of your computer media collection, including CD-ROMs, audio CDs, diskettes, removable drives, hard drives, network drives, DVDs, or any other media that Windows can access as a drive. The most basic goal for WhereIsIt is to provide access to the contents of any media you have from a cataloged database, even if the media itself is not available on the system - you can browse lists of files and folders, search by any criteria, use descriptions, thumbnails, categories, flags, etc.
WhereIsIt is easy to use for both beginners and advanced users. It features a familiar and well thought-out, Explorer-like user interface, combined with strong searching and reporting capabilities, multi-language support, automated description and thumbnails importing through extendable plugins from more than 70 different sources, and much more

another feature of disk cat is it can list files within zip too . gr8 if u have more than 1000+ files per zip file like me

to all the programmers out there . It would be gr8 if any of u guys could actually create a disk/cd catalogue with vb/vc or any platform of ur choice . it seems simple enuf , just listing files into seperate files . but once u make a beta , we can try to improve on it by adding new features suggested by members . Anyone up for the challenge ? can apps made and source code given out with propriety apps like visual studio , be considered as open source ???

PS : i aint a programmer , but i know there are many of u here with gr8 skills . remember there was a guy here a while back who made a new image editor , wonder what happened to his project

Has a great UI ..but a bit heavy on resources..i found it good though .the latest demo versions support only upto 30 disks which is way too less. but there are mirror sites (legal ones )where they offer the older version for free download. It even images HDD's.Has a good search facility find it here ...

my vote goes to whereisit. It is the best one and deserves your money. you can use its limited version or the lite version, depends on your need.
