Can't open Task Manager

I am not able to open task manager on my comp.....I use Windows XP Prof.

The error says "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator.I was messing around with some properties ,but can't revert back!!!Help.

Open regedit and goto:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

now delete DisableTaskMgr in right-side pane.

Thank you !That was real damn quick....need more help(shameless?)

As I confessed befor I was playin around wid gpedit.msc,etc and I remember disabling all startup items.The problem is that now I have an antivirus software installed(Avast Home Edition v4.7) ,it does not autostart at boot.This is real bad since that wud mean I dont have realtime protection!!!Help...I want to revert that disabling thingy I did.

Type msconfig in RUN and goto Startup tab and then enable the desired items again.

It is as shameless as it gets btw.I have not done this before so i don't know if it would work but here is the path back to that place-
run
type gpedit.msc
select comp. config.
then administrative templates
then system
in system select logon
in the right pane right click on -run these programs on logon
select properties
and this should be the place where you disabled it.
or try the easier way of vishal.But my way will give you more experience.

he has disabled it from gpedit so it might have got blocked or something.

Type Control Userpasswords2 in RUN and then uncheck Users must enter username & password...... option.

Yo yo Vimal!! Solved the prob but it was not the 'Run these progs at startup'.Instead it was that legacy progs thing.Thnkz for pointing out that Logon thing....I missed it agn and agn somehow And @Vishal....you r a MVP...really?
