Buying a laptop

Hey i just want to buy a new laptop for the purpose of casual gaming and a bit of encoding+ entertainment
1) What is your budget?
36-42 thousand rupees

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
  • Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
None in particular......
but i would prefer Hp due to their extended accidental protection scheme... if any other company has such things then its OK for me

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Ummm....... gaming(at low res) , encoding, casual works
5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?

None in particular
6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)
well.... i just want the laptop to be durable(overheating/shock)..(not an intel fanboy but i had a bad experience in my last amd processor but i know amd is no less than intel ... so any company will suffice) and should be future-proof for 2 years for the games/applications.
P.S. : which has better performance graphically and durability(from overheating) .... HP G6-2313AX or HP G6-2320TX... mainly better FPS on games

the g6-2313AX model has the same graphics chip as the g6-2320TX however in addition to that it has an onboard chip in crossfire with the dedicated gpu. keeping this in mind the g6-2313AX model has superior gaming performance than the other model. you can check further this on notebookcheck.net. the g6-2313AX model has a 512 MB AMD Radeon HD 7660G (Integrated) and 2 GB ATI Mobility Radeon 7670M HD Graphics (Dedicated) while the other model has only a 7670m hd graphics according to flipkart.

2313AX heats up badly. most of the 2312/2313AX users are having heating problem. better to wait for some revised G6 laptops that was rumored to appear with Haswell so maybe HP will do some revision for the AMD powered laptops too.

when are those laptops expected and does 2320TX also has these problems???? I Mean i can surely wait for a month or two but are there good laptops up in the cards???

yup checked on notebook review... these was slight increase in performance like 5-10 fps but there were also games in which 7670M has a higher fps..... moreover is will the 2GB graphics card give a better performance than a single gig GPU apart from the fact that it already has crossfire advantage.... and out of topic how does the increase in memory of the GPU affect games on same model

and what about Dell Inspiron 3521?? how does it compares with the HP ones with 2GB 8370M and i5 3337u graphically as well as other aspects like multitasking due to very slower VLU processor but better GPU.

it was suppose to be launched by summer time (July maybe). but actual availability will vary.

i think a fast midrange (fastest core i5) haswell chip should have sufficiently fast GPU to take care of most games you throw at it. HD4000 can play most games at low-mid with the exception of Crysis3 or BF3 so a 20% increase in GPU performance will be more than enough to play almost all games without heating up to insane temperature like most HP laptops do.

if the GPU is same, adding more graphics memory will never increase the performance. though crossfire does get a massive boost (almost 50% increase in performance) if dualchannel ram are used. budget laptops rarely have 2 ram sticks out of the box.

and what about dell inspiron 15?? how does it compares with the HP ones with 2GB 8370M and i5 3337

the GPU will bottleneck the processor but other than that, this looks just fine. just price is on the higher side.

ohh.... but who will run cooler..... btw i am still not clear about your answer of overheating of 2320tx... plz if you can state that again ... i mean what has hd 4000 to do here..if it has dedicated gpu

he meant to say haswell chips can run games without dedicated gpu.
amd is known for overheating.
the 8730m chip on the dell inspiron 15 is faster than a single 7670m chip on the hp but way slower than the ax which has crossfire.
i suggest dell inspiron over the 8730m hp models which have the same graphics card but hp tends to heat up way more.
in answer to your earlier question, the same 2gb 7670m chip is present on both models however the ax has crossfire advantage which gives over a 60% boost. this is more than enough to play all games fluently on 1366x768 however there would be massive heating. this should not be a problem in relatively cooler environments.

also note that many games are not configured to take advantage of crossfire and you may end up with the performance similar to a single 7670m card

So, in a nutshell Dell Inspiron would be a better choice for me . coz it would deliver better gaming performance than G62320 And would run cooler...as i have fried my laptops in the past so i am trying to avoid AMD chips. And by any chance they are providing with 3 year extended warranty they provided yesteryears....

at least the Dell won't fry your lap ;)

sorry about not being clear about haswell. what i meant is HD4000 found in Ivy Bridge is sufficiently fast for casual games. Haswell's GPU (Iris) will be 20-30% faster if not more so performance should be same as 7670M found in most HP laptops but without the heating problems. but as you may have to wait more 2 months for such laptops to hit the market, better get the Dell.

as you are not into hardcore gaming, definitely.

amd is known for overheating.

actually the APU processors run cooler than intel counterpart. a tiny 40mm fan cooling 2 parts (processor & GPU) just can't handle the pressure. we need 2 fan or a bigger and faster fan none of which exist in budget range.

true. most games even with DX11 support doesn't get anything out of corssfire.

sure..... thanks you everyone... and most probably i will buy the laptop in july.... what are the chances that new processor lineup from intel will help bring down the price of i5 and i7 by then...
