Building low power consuming NAS

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: It will be a home made NAS, 24/7 downloader, may turn it into music/video streamer as well later but its not the priority
However as it will run 24/7 power saving capability is a vital point

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: As less as possible. I was thinking with 12-13K excluding the HDDs

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: FreeNAS8

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Planning to start with 1TB x2. Will add later.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No. Will use existing monitor for setup then no monitor required

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, ODD

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: For now its in RnD phase. But want to buy as soon as possible.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Lotta times. Will do it myself.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Kolkata. Open to online purchase

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
1. I was planning to go for embedded CPU systems. Will it cause bottleneck for NAS?
2. Must be mini ITX
3. Most have at least four SATA ports
4. Good to have WiFi (Wiring is a big issue)
5. Power consumption is a huge factor. Having something that uses less than 10W in idle (excluding HDD) and 30 - 40W on load (again excluding HDD) will be really good. But this is also depends on point 1.
6. Will not run any RAID setup.
