For the past couple of weeks, whenever i boot my sys, after the mobo logo, i get a message - "Boot.ini file error. Booting from c:/windows" Then, it boots just fine
My boot priority is set to HDD -->CD-->Floppy.
Why's this happening?

Maybe the boot.ini is corrupted. Try using the Windows XP setup disk, run Recovery and run the fixboot command as Administrator

in c drive using notepad write following and save as "boot.ini" with quotes:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

wow! i tried checking what ny boot.ini says, but when i opened it from my comp, i got an error message that read - boot.ini could not be found. do u want to create it?
so i selected yes and pasted the code given above by romeo, hope this helps

@romeo:
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
is there supposed to be a space between W and S in WINDOWS?

yeah! don't worry sys working perfectly now
thanx a lot. i wonder how my boot.ini got busted

Garbage

God of Mistakes...
Actually boot.ini is a hidden system file. So it can't be open in notepad directly. U have to show system files, then u can see it.

& when u created a NEW boot.ini, it overwrite the original boot.ini :D
