There arent any blue ray compatible dvd drives. either blue ray drives which read dvds as well or simply dvd drives. You may get some through the grey market at around 50k. Better get a PS3 even if it costs you 50k. You get a lot more than a blue ray drive.

soham - Buying a PS3 is hell lot different than buying a Blu-Ray disc drive! Think of data discs here ... :/

@OP - Blu-Ray is still not really cheap to afford or easily available to go mainstream in India. Its better you get a 16x normal burner or look for slightly higher speeds such as 18x and 20x which have entered the market quite recently.

 If you really want a good drive then check cdrlabs or cdfreaks or cdrinfo. Majority opinion deciding your purchase is real lame

the new Sony DRU830A is *MADE BY SAMSUNG*. Wake up!

Qwerty - i only meant a Blue Ray reader here. Even the readers cost no less than 800$. So if you are interested in only playing Blue ray disks, PS3 is tat bad a deal.

Pointless buying either of the drives (blu ray or HD DVD). Dual format readers/writers are just round the corner. Also they are so damn expensive. You see that Avatar of shantanu's? That's what you will be doing when you find that the prices have dropped below 5k in another year....

Prices will definitely drop......so its meaningless going in for a thing @ 50k when in an year u can have it for less than 10k

Its pointless to buy a blue ray drive as its been recently introduced in the market and the prices are pretty high now.
You can wait for a year or so for the pices to drop.

If our keen on the storage space you can go for an external HDD in the similar price range. You can get a lot more storage from it.
