Can we please concentrate our already deprived resources towards more important issue like you know, poverty, corruption, values of an Indian citizen specially woman etc etc etc ....before we waste time on such trivial issues.

Sure, but after we end corruption, poverty, security for women, unemployment, etc.

On the other hand, does it really matter? Like Shakespeare says " What's in a name?"

Very tempted to troll

Sure that can be done but there is not a large enough consensus to change the name yet. Also the actual area comprising "Bharat" has actually been split into many parts :)
Leaving the only part called "India" to us.

Name change may be a good thing to show that we have discarded a name bestowed upon us but I believe religious politics to play spoil sport. In that regard I do not feel it is vital to change our name any time soon unless a need (don't know what this could be) arises.

Also I do not know how these name changes take place though, petition? or something else?

Please enlighten us oh wise one....

Changing the name of one state is not a big deal and there is pretty less effort involved (this "less" is still very substantial). However, changing the name of the country is an altogether ball game. International politics are involved, you will have to update records, school textbooks and what not.

Besides, thread not serving much purpose.

The strange thing about our country is that we personally use the name bestowed on us, so in a way we have accepted the name as one more aliases for our nation.

Many countries, albiet famous ones like Switzerland are not know by this name in their own country, for example if you were to travel to Swiss then you will have to ask for directions to Confederation of Helvetica which is their official name and the same can be observed in their road and rail directions.

So I don't think many people have even thought about a name change, let alone vouching for one.

Also the first Political party of our country made just before independence was called "Indian National Congress" :)

So, looks like the BHARATIYA Janta Party will be the one most likely to push for a name change :p

^I don't think changing names to hindi version matters here...as I can see bharat already being used everywhere books, atlas etc...

Changing the name of a city (if needed) falls under a Country's Government control.
But, changing a country's name itself will be a complex process, and cumbersome.

Moreover, Mother India (feminine) is beautiful in all her cultural glory than Bharat (masculine).

If this is in the context of a statement by RSS chief that "Rape happens in India, and not Bharat", then I say its BS.
Changing the name won't help in making this country safer for women, will it?

What's in a name?

In case you don't know, India is also called "Bharat Ganrajya" officially.
