hey buddy i'm too looking for upgrade solutions. i've been gathering info from all over this forum so here's my suggestion:---
Intel Core2Duo E8500, E8400, E8200 (newly launched)
These babies r based on the Penryn core (45nm fabrication process). I'll recommend them bcoz they r the top-of-the-line, serious revisions have been made and r an overclocker's delight (rock solid gaming performance)
They may xceed ur budget but u'll get huge returns

Looks like you are going to buy laptop. If yes, Intel Core2Duo has a definite advantage over Turion X2.

well AMD gernerally means you want something between intel high end core2Duo and intel low end.
Pro of AMD over intel is certainly better power management and low cost.
Otherwise AMD Turion 2.2 would not come near to 5xxx series or other high end proccy.
But certainly would prefer it over 2xxx series laptop proccies(like 2370 and others)
