Best Wireless Internet available

Firstly friends I have searched the forum for answer to my question but I was not able to get a precise answer that I'm looking for. I'm Sorry if some of you think that this question has already been asked and that I should not have posted it again.

Now coming to the question. One of my friends needs a wireless internet connection for a short while like 1 week or so. He has a laptop and needs the net to prepare for his exam. I have searched a lot about the wireless connection options and found about Plug2surf and other things offered by Reliance, BSNL etc. Can someone please tell me what is the minimum amount that we need to shell out to have this thing setup? Do we need to buy a card or a wireless modem? We are not planning to shell lot of money for this. Maximum Rs 500.

Needed for just a week? Which phone is he having? If it supports internet use on PC, then use internet through mobile. You have to pay around Rs. 2200 just to buy the modem+ 100 for SIM.

Can you please give me more details? Does this mean even if we have a Mobile we need to purchase a Modem which costs two thousand. What are the additional things required if we want to connect using wireless? In the case of the ones offered by Tata, Reliance, Idea, BSNL etc What is this PCMIA card or USB Modem?

^^No, you don't need modem if your phone has EDGE(GPRS will also do, but pathetic speed). Just activate any data plan and start using it on laptop through data cable/bluetooth.
PCMCIA card requires that your laptop has a slot for that, usb modem can be used with any desktop/laptop having usb port.

Sorry for bumping into an old thread. I thought somebody could provide some info if we have any latest plans available for wireless connection.
