Can i backup virus definitions in Norton Antivirus 2002?

take a backup of the dir names "VirusDefs" located in ur %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Symantec Shared\

Yes dude it do works
I had backed up Virus defs several times.
just follow what whistler has told take backup of virusdef folder & paste it in same location when needed.

Hi man
It can be used not only for backing up the files, can be used also for updating the definitions from other systems... it works fine....

I tried backup & restore & it succesfully update. How ever when I tried for Liveupdate for recent virus def, In dialog box the date of updation remains same(i.e, Date when I had restored manually) I want to know whtr liveupdate is succesful.

If LiveUpdate fails, it will ntify you that it has failed. The date remains the same means, new updates may not be available. LiveUpdate checked onlne, but could not find anything new...............
