hi all,

we are having centralised facility of office automation and we have 1 windows 2003 server with 80 GB SCSI HDD. well the issue here is that we would like to go for a back up device that will store the day to day updates, i.e. we are having SQL 2000 as database server.

as Tape drive is the best solution as per scene as the server has it in it, i would personally not like to use it as it seems rather a bit lenghty process.

what i request is that there are lots of backup device which are now a days USB 2.o compatible and this will be THE BEST solution. hence, my earnest request to get one such stuff.

my price budget is <10K.

anyone pls..... the matter is as such very urgent as my boss has asked me to get the details and me... just blank. u all my my hope.

so............. do suggest me.

thanks in adv..

For 10k, Tape drives are good enough. Another option is DAT but I don't knbow the cost.

For USB 2.0, just get 3.5" Desktop HD with a External HD casing. Install it on the server & set the backup software to make daily backups on that harddisk connected via USB. Now weather you want it to wipe the old date or not is upto you, I don't recomend removing the old data.

There are numuras other external harddisks in the market from Seagate or Lacie, all USB.20 based. check those too

For a server, lot of CPU tasks are involved. So USB devices probably; would not be good because USB transfers eat a lot of CPU. There will be another SCSI port in the machine. So you can connect a new HDD to the port and instruct the Backup Software to store daily backups in it. :)

so nice of gx_saurav, The Unknown for prompt re. well, as per the suggestion, in the server we have SCSI HDD and in the case of hardware failure (unfortunately), we just cant take the data's in it as there is no other servers nearby that will aid in it. as such whole of this place has countable servers only.

so my last option was to go for USB which i will plug at certain time and take backup in evening hours so that there is no tension even if server crashes. at least this USB will be plugable in desktop computers also. well, reg the CPU usage, it will be OK.

so finally i just wanted to ask the model numbers that i can go for. if u be a little generous in doing so, i can make further moves.

pls do re
