I have downloaded an AVI file yesterday. But it got corupted somehow.
Media player classic says it cannot render the file:(. Is there any way I can fix it so that I can play the video...or at least some portions of it...

Use Avi Fix Repair Joiner 2.11 and fix the errors. You may be able to play it. The program is a shareware.

Did you check the file extension? Is it .avi? If yes, then I think it has totally gone corrupt. btw, which player are using to open it?

yah its an .avi file. I used Media player classic that comes with klite. I tried by changing its extension to mpeg but that too didn't help.

@s18000rpm, vlc opens the file and the seek bar runs to the other end within one minute...no video nothing... the file is 700 MB size.

AVIFixed 2.0 b1 new
AVIFixed can rebuild the index part of the movie file and and fix the file's play time error.

AVImedic 5.3a
Before hunting for codecs and players or cutting out bad frames try and repair the file with AVImedic.

try these, if they too dont help, i think you will have download again.:(

p2p may be the reason. Try downloading it directly if your have U/L DSL.

I have a 256 kbps Cable modem connection . and the free download is from 1-7. I had automated the downloads. I think, I should go for direct downloads...once again.

Two Probabilities at last:
1. File fully corrupted
2. May be a Google Video. Then try playing in Google Video Player. Many Google videos are also available in p2p sites.

@Indyan, I have installed Crystal Player and Gom Player now.
Crystal Player is saying "Can't Locate video stream"
while Gom is saying "Codec not found"

I think the video is of no use now. Will have to go for other sources...:(

Broken In
open the file in "gspot codec information" to find the actual codec.
or try this
open media player classic.."file->utils->dsm converter->(rt clkwindow)addfile->save".try playing this dsm file in mp classic.

Gspot says the Filetype as "unknown"
i tried now what you said, But when I clicked on the save as option in the DSM coverter, nothing happened; the start, pause, stop buttons are unavailable.

Dude even after so may solutions if the file is not working then it is better u download it again...Sometimes the files are fake & are put on p2p for fun or tracking..Recording companies use these files to track users...So be careful
