AT&T and Verizon say 10Mbps is too fast for “broadband,” 4Mbps is enough

Digit office? :p
We indians have shitty govt. to support our uber shitty plans. :-x 4mbps unlimited without FUP should be bare minimum available as the broadband at <₹1k, might be achievable somewhere near the year 2030 at the current progress speed.. :|
Nope at home. It's supposed to be 16 Mbps up and down, but I get between 3 and 5 MBps downloads, and torrents, well, anything from 1.5 MBps to 30 MBps depending on how many local seeds.

Business plans are more expensive and thus at office we only have 8 Mbps 1:1 x 3 lines from 3 different providers for redundancy. So at any given time we can at max get 900 KBps downloads, sadly.

seriously 50 gb over with Browsing only ???? :chinscratch:

that's not even possible

if you are referring to watching video sites then that is called streaming .. not browsing..
I frequently watch YouTube videos at 360p and browse.that's it.

rish come on!

Video streaming is all just part of the "browsing" experience these days.

Next you'll be strict and insist that Windows updates and Chrome, Java, Flash, etc., updates are "downloading", and not part of "regular internet usage" (which is what people mean when they say "browsing").

Back to school!!
I don't even care about 4mbps, give me stable, continuous(no upto cr@p) 2mbps download and upload and I'll be more than happy to pay 1k for it, seriously.

hmm great point sir.. :)

even i didn't mean to say that watching videos was out of browsing experience, i chose wrong words so apologies for that..

what i was trying to say is that for an average person even watching 1 hour video per day should be more than enough and 50 gb should be plenty of bandwidth for that

but if anyone spends really more time than that on watching videos then i don't think it should be termed as browsing .. it should be kept in the video streaming category

in your example , like windows , app updates are still downloading but most average internet users do that so it is a part of browsing experience but if a person just keeps on downloading stuff 24x7 even if it involves downloading only app updates ( exaggerated hypothetical situation :p ) then it definitely can't be termed as Browsing experience..

the term "browsing" is very vague and dynamic in nature and should be based on what on average most internet users do and how much they consume ..

just my 2 cents :)

BSNL launched 4G Wimax in my state .. Big words but the best plan they offer is Rs 7000 for 2 Megabits/s no FUP unlimited..
WHAT THE F**K !

Compare this to Reliance Broadband 4mbps Thunder 1099 plan NO FUP at Rs 1k.. (which unfortunately is not available in my state)
Im not a heavy downloader but I hate having a FUP limit, having to constantly watch over how much I download stuff.. Really need more 4 MBPS no FUP plans at acceptable costs like Reliance broadband in my state

PS: How many of you use that particular Reliance plan ?

Mine. Local cable guy, 16 Mbps, no FUP.

Well I haven't hit one yet. I've downloaded 200 GB in about 3 days when looking for 4k videos for testing monitors and then the usual 100 gb or so per month of regular use. So its certainly 300 GB plus if there is one. Cable wallah doesn't know what FUP is, so he's no help.

How about a fast-track issue focusing on India's Internet Market?
If planning for one, please clarify these :-
Why BSNL just don't push themselves to 2 or 4 MBPS ULD With no FUP?
How this data transcation Buisness is carried out?
How these local internet guys in some areas work?their mechanism?
About the future, are we gonna use the same 512 kbps(The highest in my town ),or are some tech giants are investing in the development?
