Taipei, Taiwan (30th January, 2015) — ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced the opening round of OC Showdown 2015, an online competition inviting hardcore and enthusiast overclockers from around the world to compete to win both kudos and great prizes.
ASUS ROG has organized two series, each divided into three rounds. In co-operation with HWBOT.org, and competition partners Intel®, G.Skill, Enermax and der8auer Extreme Cooling Components (8ECC), subzero overclockers will enter the Extreme series. All other contestants will compete in the Formula series, in collaboration with partners Intel, HyperX® and Enermax.

Contestants will accumulate points during each round and be eligible to win prizes based on their end-of-round score. In addition to prizes for each individual round, a grand prize will be awarded to the overall winner of each series.

Both series are open to overclockers worldwide, though entrants are required to remain in their chosen series once the competition begins. The first round, for Extreme series participants, opens today and runs through to 2nd March, 2015. Formula’s first round kicks off on 6th March and runs through to 6th April, 2015. Full competition rules, along with entry requirements for each series and dates for subsequent rounds, are published on the competition website, at OC eSports.

The total combined prize value for both Extreme and Formula series round one will be USD$8,500. Contestants in both series are encouraged to broadcast their results and comments on both Twitter and Facebook using the ASUS_ ROG #OCShowdown hashtag.

Extreme series
Extreme series is open to contestants that engage in subzero cooling to obtain the most extreme overclocking results. With no restrictions on the type of cooling equipment used, Extreme series contestants are free to build rigs cooled by whatever apparatus they choose, such as dry ice or liquid nitrogen (LN2).
Participation in the Extreme series requires overclockers to bench with a Z97 or X99 motherboard from ASUS, ASUS ROG or ASUS TUF. For 3D benchmarks, overclockers must also use ASUS, ASUS ROG, or ASUS Strix graphic cards. Full Extreme series competition rules are available at OC eSports.

Formula series
Formula series is for those who love to overclock without allowing the mercury to drop below zero (0ºC), using only air or water cooling. This series is open to anyone using an ASUS, ASUS ROG or ASUS TUF Z87 or Z97 motherboard. As with the Extreme series, for 3D benchmarks Formula overclockers must also use ASUS, ASUS ROG, or ASUS Strix graphic cards. Full Formula series competition rules are available at OC eSports.
