Assemble or Pre-built

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: 1. Programming - Eclipse, multiple JVM instances, one or two application servers and databases, Python, R, lot of computational work like - pattern/statistical analysis.
2. Office - Mainly Excel
3. Browsing.
4. Gaming - mainly Halo 2 & 3 initially.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 30-35k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 7 and Ubuntu

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 500GB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No. I have LG 23EA53

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Mouse, Keyboard, Graphics Card

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: within 3-4 weeks

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: I would like to buy assembled. But the assembler must offer good after sales support

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: I'll be buying a new PC based on Intel's Haswell CPU within the next one month. My main dilemma is whether to assemble one on my own (or get it assembled) or buy a pre-built system from Dell(I am looking at Optiplex 9020).

The reason why I am seriously considering a pre-built system is because stability and peace of mind are really important to me. I just do not want to be in a situation where I have to chase different vendors in case my system develops problems. My last system which I bought assembled about 8yrs back gave me lot of problems and I wasted a lot of time chasing people - my assembler, Intel, SMPS vendor etc.

If I do buy assembled I'll be buying from Nehru Place Delhi. Can you guys suggest some good computer part vendors in that market who provide good after sales support for assembled machines?
Please also tell me what you think of Optiplex 9020 from Dell.
