Asha Bhosle has joined a small but growing list of celebrities who are daring to take on MNS chief Raj Thackeray over his campaign against migrant workers in Mumbai.

"Mumbai belongs to everybody. No matter which place you belong to, you can stay anywhere and earn your livelihood," Asha said at a function organised to celebrate her birthday.

A red-faced Raj listened in rapt attention as Asha tore into his anti-north Indian stand. He not only listened to her speech but also clapped with others.

Asha said nobody had the right to take away the livelihood of those who worked tirelessly in the city.

Taunting Raj over his stand that north-Indian taxi drivers in Mumbai should learn Marathi, Asha said: "My Marathi is not good, but I am learning. I speak Hindi most of the times and so am comfortable in it."

Asha's tough stand against Raj is a welcome change from the wishy-washy stand that politicians in Maharashtra have taken on the issue of migrants in Mumbai.
