Apple officially announces the iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5-inch display

The Apple iPhone 6 Plus is now official. It's built around a 5.5" IPS LCD display with an Retina HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels or, in other words 1080p). The pixel density is 400 ppi and iOS 8 has been tweaked to take full advantage of the larger display.

The back of the iPhone 6 Plus is made of anodized aluminum and the stainless steel frame of the phone ensures its rigidity.


The user interface has been optimized to take advantage of the larger screen and offers split-screen mode in several apps like earlierleaks suggested.

The new 64-bit A8 chip that powers the Apple iPhone 6 Plus is built using the 20nm manufacturing process. Thanks to this it's more power efficient, while still offering 25% more CPU power and 50% GPU boost.

The iPhone 6 Plus supports 20 LTE bands, but only 150Mbps cat4 LTE, rather than the latest 300Mbps Cat 6. On the positive side the phablet comes with VoLTE and Wi-Fi 802.11ac, which promises 3x faster Wi-Fi compared to the iPhone 5s. Wi-Fi calling is also a new feature, which will work on T-Mobile in the US and EE in the UK.

At the back, the iPhone 6 Plus uses a 8MP iSight camera with a True Tone dual LED flash. The pixel size is slightly larger than the iPhone 5s at 1.5μ and the aperture is f/2.2. Most importantly, the iPhone 6 Plus has an optical image stabilization - a first for the company.

There's phase-detection autofocus that should improve focusing speed twice. It is part of the A8 chip, which also includes powerful image signal processor designed by Apple.

The Apple iPhone 6 Plus camera records 1080p video at 30 and 60fps. There's a slow-mo shooting available, too, at 240fps, but its resolution hasn't been specified.


The iPhone 6 Plus will start at $299 for the 16GB version, while the 64GB and 128GB will retail for $399 and $499, respectively.

like they went back to the original, pre 4 design

iOS 8 seems to be capturing the hole left by blackberry, lots of stuff for businesses, little focus on regular users

don't like the watch thing, at least they should not call it a watch. digital crown? lulz, but might be good for interface.

On a positive note, I saw the geekbench score of the 1.3 ghz dual core A8 and it equals the 2.5 Ghz Krait 400 in the Sd801 and the 1.9 Ghz+1.3 Ghz - Cortex A15+A7 in exynos, which is impressive to say the least.

Lol, doesn't matter. Apple users are enough brainwashed, FHD, half HD, even if they brought back 240x320 display they will buy it. It's only their loss, no one cares any more.

The thing is, how on earth they released a watch like that? I mean just look at it. Some vomit comes to my mouth. Didn't they hire someone from Tag Heuer some weeks back?

iphone 6 + is a shocker, no ois in i6 is another shocker. Maps is improved they demonstrated with watch looks satisifying. They retained both 5c, 5s which is good, but 5c supposed to be discontinued. They called the display as Retina HD display is the stupidest move, since they have higher resolution for tablets

yipee finally apple fans can enjoy S3 experience on iphone. When I compared my s3 to iphone it was nearly 80% similar.

As usual, with what's been a trend across brands, now this too is just an upgrade over the previous models, rather than being something completely new. But then there wasn't much to complain about from the previous phones. But the one thing I think every smartphone needs to address is battery life. Those powerful processors are not really helping the average man who spends an entire day away from a wall outlet. And I'm not referring to the ginormous phones like the Note series, just regular sized phones.

The Apple Watch, pretty disappointing honestly. But then after looking at the Moto 360 (which made me go WOW! until I realised it's incompatible with iOS) any other watch looks just Meh!
Hope they bring about a cooler design. I can't believe that apple screwed up in the looks department.
But as usual their UI seems to be better than the Android watches. But that's no incentive (for me) to strap on something that I don't like looking at.

All in all, hopefully my bro will pick up the iPhone 6 soon and I'll have some pics to put up.

Im wondering whether or not that digital crown will become a good interface for regular use
it was meant to be used infrequently, sounds gimmicky

frankly i dont think the iphone 6 has anything new to offer other than a bigger screen that too only 326ppi 4ppi lesser than the 4S
iphones cameras have always been fast to open etc but is worse lumias,xperias and S5,S4
i know most of my friends are literal isheeps(not saying all apple users are or anything,i know people who research and geniunely like apple not blindly though)all my friends are like it has apple pay,it has nfc ,it has a bigger screen it must be better etc
i just loled at them because all the phones ive owned in the past 3-4 years have had nfc,wireless charging and the more recent ones even have ois etc
im not an apple hater and actually love the ipad but seeing yesterdays event live i feel iphone 6 (and plus) bring nothing new to the table,atleast apple watch is a new thing for apple and the crown thing is unique but on the whole gimmicky
i asked my dads friend who imports apple products and he feels the starting price of iphone 6 base model should reach 69k minus apple watch and apple watch atleast 20k which is approx a whopping 90K total for atleast the initial months

yeah plus seeing the button failures on the iphone 5 and 5s within a week for most of my friends ,i think the apple watch crown may also have such issues
