hi
i m trying to spend time on ubuntu but i m having 2 very annoying problem

1. i had made my whole ppt and report in open office but when i took my ppt nd report in my college ( which uses Ms office 2003 )to give seminar the whole ppt turned out ugly (dont know Y) i think due to change alignment :( in office 2003
also my report suffered page setup problem
so i had to realign whole ppt and report in ms 2003 :(

any solution for this ?

2. as i m constantly sharing my pendrive with my friend most of them on Windows ,pendrive gets infected with virus though it does not affect my ubuntu but they blame me for spreading virus :(

any solution ?

1) There is no alignment compatibility even in different versions of MS Office itself! I had a tough time editing and formatting my Project report which was typed in MS Office 2000 and I had to take print outs in my college lab which had Office XP. This problem of compatibility in alignment is a common problem and you can't do anything about it.

2) Ubuntu spreading Windows virus??!! haha.... Joke of the century! They need some serious enlightenment!! (Not E17! ;) )

Even I faced the problem of alignment between Open Office 2.2 & Office 2007. I m still to find a solution for the same...

Inter Office Suite compatibility if near to zilch in ANY Office suite. You would get better results if you were using a Word Processor file or a spreadsheet but presentations are definitely going to wreck havoc. In Office there was a Pack and Go feature. Im not sure one is available for OpenOffice but its worth taking a look at.

what i usally do is, write my reports in oo writer and export the file as PDF. the advantage of it is that i don't even loose inch of my formatting & alignment.

to do this FILE> EXPORT AS A PDF

but downside is you can't edit as most pc don' have a PDF editor, but you can always carry a same document in *.doc format incase to need to edit it:)

first of all thanks all for puting in :)

@gary4gar : ur method of converting FILE> EXPORT AS A PDF is good :)

@NucleusKore :nice idea dude but uncompressing portable application
can take time espically in low config. PC like in my coll. :(

@praka123 :
reg pendrive-make sure there is no hidden files etc by viewing in ur file manager.
Thanks sir :) nice idea

but its really upsetting that there is no fool proof method for alignment compatability btw open office nd M$ office .
I hope this problem will soon be rectified by open source people :)

This problem is existent even across different versions of MS Office! So unless MS does something to MSOffice to improve the alignment compatibility don't expect much from OOo, as there is little they can do!

There is nothing to uncompress, just run it from the pen drive

Yeah. You just load portable office in ur pendrive & run from it.No need to worry about installing anything on college pc or about the config.I too use it & it works like a charm. :) Most of my frndz use pirated office ,so it becomes a necessity. ;)
