Right off the assembly line
1. Budget? - 16K INR
2. Display type and size? 3.7~3.8 inches.
3. Form Factor? bar, slider, flip? Bar/Slider
4. Preferred choice of brand? - HTC, Sony (worried about the heating problems)
5. Preferred input method (QWERTY, touchscreen, numpad, touch-n-type). Touchscreen
6. What camera option you want? Please specify need for flash, autofocus, front facing camera. 5MP Primary, front facing camera a plus
7. Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc). Android
8. Preferred connectivity options (3G, Wifi etc)Please specify clearly. - Wifi
9. Preferred applications (Flash, Swype, GPS, etc)? - GPS, and other android goodies
10. Primary use of handset (multimedia, camera, mails, internet, gaming etc)? - Mails, internet, light gaming, camera, and music playback
11. Any specific mobile phones in consideration? - Was hooked onto the HTC Desire Z, but that has been discontinued it seems. So, now, HTC Desire. Maybe a look at Sony Neo V (again, worried about the heating problem)
12. Any other info that you want to share -- Battery, which I am sure is an issue with most phones, is not a problem. I will be keeping a USB Charger with me at all times, so not really worried about it. I am tempted towards the HTC Range, because of their Sense UI and its cool features, but I am open for discussion. Currently have a Nokia N 97 Mini and am sick of its low processor capability and RAM. Would expect good and smooth processing power from the new phone.

In a budget of 16-18K, there are many options, but mostly are above 16k and around 17-18k.
Here are the available best options:
HTC One V for ~18k
HTC Incredible S for 18-19k
HTC Desire S ~17k
Sony Neo V ~16-17k
You can use the 10% coupon of ebay to make the price further go down.

@dan4U- the one available for 15k is with dealer warranty and no manufacturer warranty.

Thank you guys for your advice. I am sorry, I think i meant Salsa when I mentioned HTC Desire S. Salsa is in my budget, but I absolutely hate the facebook button there. :(

You can use the 10% coupon of ebay to make the price further go down.

How do I do it?And is buying from eBay reliable? #newbiequestion

Ebay is reliable and all depends on the seller from whom you are buying, so check the ratings of the seller, or simply share the link here and we will suggest you.
You can get the coupons in ebay weekly mails as well on various websites, you just need to apply them while paying for the product

Also - aroraanant.. I am going for this desire s.. and not the new one which is htc one v.. i tried using the HTC one V at a dealer shop, and found it to be really laggy and slow compared to desire s.. moreover desire S has more RAM than One V...

Does this decision make sense?

Please advise.

Cheers!

The seller seems to be good and reliable, go on and buy it.
Try to use some coupon to make the price go down further, if you can get the 10% coupon then you can get it for only 16k.
I haven't got my hands on One V yet so can't comment on lag and all but I think it should not be there as it is a new handsets and all the cons in previous handsets are supposed to be resolved in the new ones. But on the other hand Desire S is one of the best handsets of HTC, people who are in(working with) the company says so.

Hi den20.. HTC One V does talk about beats audio.. but the sad part is - it doesnt have beat earphones in the box.. so you actually wont be feeling the difference. I tried it in one shop and they said HTC does not ship the earphones.. you would be getting only HTC stock earphones.

Dont know about the price which it sells to flipkart, but the one I saw was 16800 bucks..

Hope this helps!

@OP: when buying frm ebay also buy frm powerseller.
I suppose Htc has overcomed battery issues in new models.
