After Installing additional 512Mb DDR 400 RAM I dont find any increase in speed?

Dear All,

I was using D915GLVG mother board with 512Mb DDR 400 RAM....I was happy with the system speed but recently i had put additional hard disk of 160Gb so I thought to add 512Mb DDR 400 RAM.

After adding the additional my ram is now 1Gb....but I am not finding any increase in speed.
I have downloaded a testing tool from microsoft to create a floppy disk and used to test memory at the time of booting....those tests were done and it resulted no errors.

Is there any tool to really test my installed RAM's?

Please help me out.

First of all, let's be clear about one thing: What kind of speed increase did you expect? Faster boot-up, higher game fps, faster loading of applications...... ? How did you expect the increase in speed to show itself? What do you mean by saying that you did not find any increase in speed?

Please answer these questions and we can then help you assess the performance.

naah question of pimpom is correct. You need to identify what speed are you talking about.
And if its overall performance and speed you are talking about then you are mistaken.
RAM does not improves speed it improves performance. To increase speed you need to increase BUS speed of the RAM, get a better faster proccy. If speed is what we are talking about then people will still take a 3.6 GHz single core proccy instead of 2.4 GHz quad core or dual core.

Besides this how old is your CPU.

I got a 2.8 GHz single core P4 proccy in my office. it had 512 MB RAM, I placed order to increase the RAM, and got it done for 2GB I do not see increase in speed. But when I run 10 apps side by side still my proccy works cool, which always used to get hung.

speed increase means faster loading of applications and multi application running at a time...for example dvd burning, matlab, internet browsing, etc,.,.

I believe that both memory sticks are of same frequecy...Is there any sofware or inbuilt application which gives a detailed print out of all installed hardware? so that i can cross check it??

thank you very much.

well you wont see much increase of speed. by increasing to 1GB from 512 MB.
MATLAB is real heavy application. DVD burning not depends upon just system RAM. internet browsing also does not just depends upon RAM but your bandwidth. But when you open 10 pages of internet explorer and still see your system not hanging you should get the idea.

you are not giving us any real time dude, get a clock and check what gets done in how much time. there is not app to check each other apps time. Be realistic.
Increasing your RAM when you added up HDD was ood idea it will decrease the latency for sure. But there will be drastic change in what you see, I do not think so

I burned a DVD @16x speed in 7 minutes and 12x took 8.5 on my P4 with 384 MB RAM is ther anyone who can get any better specs with any burner with any proccy mobo and RAM config I really will be amazed.

You can see the fastness of the application when you do alt+tab from one application to other. You can really get the idea of the handling done by your system performance when switching apps. Does it gets hung and all.

But to check what hardware you got you can check in device manager. What kind of details are you looking for. I think SiSoft Sandra is also good to know little more detail of the hardware, that is a benchmarking tool.

Besides this there are quiet a few benchmarking tools to check your hardware.

You ll experience lesser lag when multitasking. Or maybe it is getting bottlenecked by some other component.

Hey..

What increase in RAM will do for you...it will NOT make your computer faster. It will enable the following:
1. Better multitasking -- can open more applications at the same time, without system hang.
2. Faster boot up.
3. Quicker response time of applications -- Browsers open faster, screen right clicks quicker...video buffering is quicker.
4. Games give better FPS.

You will not see a visible "speed difference".....basically more applications can be opened..and you will experience less system hangs.
