here it goes the template first -

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
A: Gaming (not hardcore. cards like HD5750 or GTS450 will suffice) and assignments (he is in school though i too:-D)

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
A: yups

3. What is your MAX budget?
A: 30-34k (lower the better but good system)

4. Planning to overclock?
A: yup. i will for him.

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
A: windows 7 and ubuntu.

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
A: 500GB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
A: need a new one. a 20" will do considering the budget and gpu.

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
A: 6

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
A: i will assemble it.

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
A: as soon as decided.

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
A: yups

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
A: no. everything including monitor, ups, speakers, keyboard & mouse.

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
A: He lives in Delhi. will try smcinternational.

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary
A: i have decided on this -

AMD Athlon II x4 635 @ 4.5k
Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H @ 4k
Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333MHz @ 1.2k
Zotac GTS450/ Sapphire HD5750 @ 6.5k~~
WDC Blue 500GB/ Seagate 500GB 7200.12 @ 1.7k
LG 22x SATA DVD @ 0.9k
FSP Saga II 500W @ 2.1k
CM Elite 310 @ 1.5k
DELL IN2020M @ 6.3k
APC 650VA @ 2.6k
Altec Lansing VS2621 @ 1.6k

^^ Buddy thats a great system you've decided. Perfect for the budget. I guess you won't need any further suggestion. Just if possible, change the 635 and go for a 640 by paying 0.5k more.

Between amd and nvidia, you don't worry buddy. There will be no unecessary arguments here. You decide which card you want between gts 450 and 5750 as per your needs.

I don't know how much Ubuntu supports AMD stuffs, but linux doesn't go well with ATI Graphics Card and AMD processors ;)

ok vicky and srch07. thanks for replies:)
yup amd llinux driver support is bad but he wants linux just for sake of seeing it. :-D. not some pro work and all. everything will be donw in windows7.
i will like your suggestions please in gfx department.

actually Mr. Vicky i thought 640 first. but you know i will oc for him. so that will cover up. but i will like if someone tells if 640 is more overclockable. acc. to my research 635 can reach 3.5 or so. sufficient. not more because this thing lacks L3 cache also.

^^Well if physx is priority, then i would suggest gts 450. Its a bit faster than 5750 out of the box as well.

Lanaya
well i'll too suggest u to go for GTS 450 bcoz of 2 reasons
->better driver support for linux and its derivatives
->better performance than 5750

MV VIP to the MAX
Thats a great rig. Just change the cabinet to CM Elite 430 for 1k more (its seriously worth it).

I too vote for a GTS 450. Also, there is no need to overclock unless you are not satisfied with the performance.
