A Gaming as well as video encoding PC configuration

Well, for video encoding, i3 3220 is not a good idea and in fact for the games releasing now, a Quad Core CPU is highly recommended as Myth has already mentioned. I think a A10-5800K, along with a HD 7850 or GTX 660 will be a good idea here. I am not considering the IGP of the Trinity here and just considering it as a Quad Core Processor. It has almost same performance in gaming as the i3 3220 and in Video Encoding, it outperforms the Intel Dual Core offering. Also games like Crysis 3 can take the advantage of all the 4 Cores and it outperforms i3 3220 by a good margin in this game. Price is just 1 to 1.5 K higher than the i3 3220. Also it can overclocked.

Hell, if possible you should wait for the end of March as AMD is going to release their new AMD Richland series APU at 18th of this March.

You are so wrong buddy. A10 with 7850 or gtx 660 would cause a serious cpu bottleneck
"same performance in gaming as the i3 3220"
You kidding, right ? You are really under estimating the power of HT in sandy/ivy bridge.
A10 has really crappy single threaded performance compared to i3's and i3's HT beats even the true quad cores of A10 in gaming.

In video encoding and stuff, yes A10 outperforms i3 but by how much ? Around 15%. Yes, 15%.

"Also games like Crysis 3 can take the advantage of all the 4 Cores and it outperforms i3 3220 by a good margin in this game."
Good margin ? Again baseless comment.

If you don't believe me, take a look here-
AnandTech - Bench - CPU

Every Crysis have been able to use 4 cores, so according to you A10 should be winning here, right? Well that is not the case. i3 ahead by 20%

Now I must have sound a little harsh, but many of your statements were simply outrageous.

Proc: i5 3450 - 11k
Mobo: Gigabyte B75M D3H - 4k
Sapphire HD7850 - 13.5k
Corsair value 4GB - 1.3k / Gskill ripjaws 4GB - 1.7k
Corsair 430w - 2.5k

Total: 32.7

Perfect Suggestion ! It can't get better than this.

Damn, didn't knew that i5 3450 was available for 11k.
Though it lacks a little behind fx 8350 in encoding, when gaming factor is thrown in, overall i5 is a winner.

It's not all mixed up, almost all agree on Myth's config, which is really great and perfectly balanced.

give me one reason to go for a 7850 ?

tell me one reason to get a 7850 over a 7870?

i agree an i3 is not good for video encoding.

if he waits for 8xxx series GPU, he will get a much less powerful offering than the 7870/7850 unless he wants to spend another 2k for 15% performance gains.

Ill give you two obvious reasons. One: He has a budget. Second:The 7870 is Rs 4300 more than a HD7850!

@ OP dont confuse yourself unnecessarily better get a Quad Core for your purpose.New age gaming where Crysis 3 and the likes are more interested in actual cores over logical ones.Secondle encoding uses 4 cores for faster conversions.Get what Myth suggested.

lol when the budget perfectly allows for a HD 7870 why not get one?

secondly unless OP plans to play 64 player bf3 on high settings, getting a quad core is of no use.

since he is already getting a i3 then why not get a good gpu and upgrade to a new processor later.. ? it not like as if the dual core i3 is bottle necking the GPU is it?

LOL

You are suggesting a system which has a entry level Corei cpu with a mid end GPU !!! Not balanced in this scenario where he has to ENCODE (even gaming) and that is better off with real cores than logical ones. So an i5 is ideal. Now for the GPU the best he can do with the i5 at his specified budget keeping the balance quotient in mind is get a GTX660 for Rs 2000 more,if at all.

If you see nobody upgrades a processor here and there and often its the GPU that gets upgraded the most, aint? Hence onece again the i5 rig is the best he can get as suggested by Myth.

To get a clear idea as to why Im stressing an i5/FX8350 for gaming is because of the upcoming games and the encoding that he will actually do will benefit from the 4 actual cores. To know more visit Techspot and read ann article there about Crysis and the impact of Quad cores. Check the real world benchies there.

he needs to get a much better proccy than the 3450 / 3470 if OP wants solid performance, and the last time i checked it costed more than 10k...
the truth is that if OP wants his rig to be future proof, then he can forget that even a 3450 + HD 7850 will run crysis.

if you consider crysis 3 a bench, then just see that graph. and tell me where i am wrong in suggesting an i3... its pretty clear that games with graphics like crysis 3 will be mainstream in about 1-1.5 years from now.

the top end configs are struggling to give more than 60 FPS.

so all in all most are in favor of the Myth's configuration :) so i will go with his config only if anyone have any other better specification/configuration do provide it :D as after this i wont be spending a pie on the system in next 2-3 years

Get Wat Myth Suggested . It is a Perfectly Balanced imo.....
4 cores will be very very future proof. Games that come in the future will make extreme use of 4 cores....

You yourself are contradicting your ownself............LOL

The i5 is at least 14FPS fater than the i3 and about 8FPS on an avrage!!!!

Thank you for proving us right.

what res is your display?

Thank you for proving us right.

yes but you are so naive you missed the whole point, its 17 fps more on avg, considering that.... it still less than 45 fps... which is the minimum required for smooth gameplay.. so the question is that are you suggesting him to spend more on a processor just for that extra 17 fps? knowing very well that even then the game will be choppy. think about it before you reply.

Proc: i5 3450 - 11k
Mobo: MSI H61M-P20 (G3) Motherboard @ 2.7k
Sapphire HD7870 - 16k
Corsair value 4GB - 1.3k / Gskill ripjaws 4GB - 1.7k
Corsair 430w - 2.5k

Total: 35k ( dream config, still wont run crysis 3 @ >30fps )

also you forgot to factor in a better gpu... consider this : in that graph its the same gpu... so if i change my gpu which is more powerful than the 7970 20% extra ill get a somewhat fps boost upto 7-8 fps... so its really 25 fps versus 30 fps... and i think if you can save 2k by avoiding a quad core then its a good buy...

just look at that graph, thats a gtx 680 = more than ops total budget paired with a 3550 and even then its struggling with minimum fps < 60... i think at least 45 fps is bare minimum and 60 fps is just about recommended if you really want to play a game properly... people say that anything above 30 does not matter... its bullshit.. when you play at 60 fps, you notice the difference.

So lets say even if op gets a 3450 + hd 7850 where will it land him ? with an 3220 + hd 7870 its the same case... whatever config he decides to chose he will be on the same platform... i.e. the difference in the FPS of both the systems will not be much... so why not save money by getting a cheaper config? because unless he gets ready to shell out 60k hes still stuck on the same FPS level...

Who needs a quad core, when you can do the same with a dual core ?

tum dee dum dum

I know a lot of BF3 players wonder why there performance can sometimes suffer, so here's a way to figure out whether your Processor (CPU) or your Video Card (GPU) is the problem.

I completely forgot about this nifty console command back in the BETA, but I came across it today again and I figured I would share it.

So lets say your experiencing FPS drops at random, and can't figure out what the problem is. Here's a possible solution:

1. Open up the console command by pressing the "~" key, which can be found to the left of the "1" key on almost all keyboards.
2. A small box will appear in the left top corner of your screen. In the Box type the following command exactly as I have it here:

Render.PerfOverlayVisible 1

After typing it, press enter and close the console command box by pressing "~".

3. In the bottom left corner of your screen, a small graph will appear, it will have both a yellow and green line inside it. These are color coded. The yellow line is your CPU performance and the green line is your GPU performance.
4. How does this help spot hardware issues? Pay attention to which line often dips lower than the other.

If the yellow line is below the green line, either consistently or at random, it means your GPU is holding your performance back and lowering some settings could help or buying a new GPU alltogether.

If the green line is below the yellow line, it means your CPU is holding you back and you should probably play on smaller servers or purchase a new CPU.

So to recap:

Yellow line BELOW Green line = GPU Bottleneck
Green line BELOW Yellow line = CPU Bottleneck

NOTE: To disable the command and take the graph off your screen open up the console command again by pressing "~" and type the following:

Render.PerfOverlayVisible 0

Press enter and close the console command.

@ Incinerator.. guess who is santa visiting in town?

dum deee dum dum :

*imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/cpuusaget.jpg/

the end point being that if he has a 7870, games which are now much more dependent on the GPU will give a much better performance gain than the 7850 .

Enough with the trolling, Op here is some serious advice.

1. you mentioned you are using an old monitor

a, if native res = 1280x1024 / b. 1440x990

in that case you dont need a 7870.

Also if you are not going to play mutiplayer then again a quad core is not required.

So ill suggest a config assuming you have a monitor < 1080p native res.

go with myth. incase you really are going to play multiplayer... else ill suggest stick with the i3 + 7870

To cut a very long story short and thus getting to the point and enhancing my argument that Quad Core is better suited for the Future, Crysis3 and Encoding (one of OPs two major reqiurements) ....I put up this png.

So you see i3 is at the bottom of the list ,4th from the very last!! Not promising is it? And its only the very present the future games gonna be more demanding and we already know that. So to avoid a complete upgrade in the future he should get an i5/FX8350 for now and upgrade the GPU when its required. The i5 3470 looks very very promising and more so is the FX 8350. I hope this makes sense and am clear.

And I am in to Metal so cant really hum like you ta de da dum dum whatever!:p

tish tish dang! upgrading a gpu when required? dont you understand bro, after 2 years that architecture is going to be obsolete.

you are assuming he is going to play crysis 3 for the rest of his life!

in news : EA just announced BF3 which has been there for past 1 year and whose benchmarks have been uploaded above have not been read by and obviously never heard by some man called "the incinerator".....

*media.bestofmicro.com/U/0/354888/original/BF3.png

Just got this via satellite from the aliens, even they know about this benchmark NOW ! its SO POPULAR.

NoasArcAngel, people here have suggested i5 3450 as video encoding is also one of the requirements and i5 3450 is significantly better compared to i3 3220 there in general.
It's up to OP what he needs,if he wants to sacrifice encoding performance for a better GPU or not.
It is not as if he demanded a gaming-only PC.Even in that case many might go with i5 3xxx than i3 3xxx as the former is a better CPU overall and not everybody upgrades a PC every 2 years. It all depends upon individuals' needs.

Don't use unnecessary large fonts, stick to the point.Don't talk unnecessary off-topic.

rightly said buddy actually my first priority is gaming and as i belong to media field so i need a encoding related pc too. and i have also said that may be in future i may add Tv Tuner card to my pc so a humble request to suggest the mobo in which it can get fitted i will be adding Avermedia Tv Tuner Card with HD Recording and a well suited Graphic card too as i saw in the specification there was written i also be needing a graphic card for recording in real time HD

For TV tuner card, you need a free PCIe slot(in case of PCIe TV tuner card) on the motherboard, gigabyte b75m-d3h should do the job for you unless you run out of PCIe slots.

Well you make me lol so loud
A10 does not have l3 cache which has a tremendous effect on games and at 8k its absolutely wasting money. There is athlon II 640k which is a10 without igp (not available in india), you could have suggeted a8-5600k. Think before you suggest, if op would have chosen it, god he would have been ripped off
