Since you are getting a separate gfx card, it is better to stick to Intel... AMD doesnt have overheating issues, but it is lagging behind Intel in performance... Its advantage is that its motherboards have much better IGP than Intel mobos but that is not important here...

Most of the games are dual core optimised but quad is the future.

Athlon 64X2 5000+ -- 2900
Asus M2A MX mobo -- 2300
OCZ Value 2GB ram -- 950
CoolerMaster 460W Ext Pw -- 2400
Palit Dual Sonic HD 4870 512MB --
15850

Total : 24400.

If you can increase ur budget a bit get the Palit aa 780g MOBO... (3800) A lot better.
Also If you can increase a bit more... get the Athlon X4 5600+ for 3900.
At 2.9GHz speed ur processor will never be a bottleneck. (Though loading screens will be a bit longer compared to intel, the gameplay hit is quite negligible)

Total budget 26900
