64 bit or 32 bit upgrade

I am currently using Windows 7 32 bit on the rig down on my sig.. I am going to upgrade to windows 8, but should I go for 32 bit or 64 bit.. I currently am using the Intel HD 2000, and i have 4 GB of RAM.. In windows 7, it says only 3.22 GB usable.. Will going for 64 bit actually increase or decrease my performance.. ? Also, will there be any application incompatibility with 64 bit ?
Thanks in advance

64-bit is worthy, if you've >=4GB of RAM, as 32-bit has a 3 GB barrier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For 64-check, use 64bit Checker for Windows

You wont have any gain on x64 unless you are using more than 4gb ram, (typically 8gb or 16gb) & if you don't use any software which are designed specifically for x64 version.

I use Windows 7 x64 with 4gb ram.

I'll suggest 64Bit upgrade. Most of our processors (be it Intel or AMD) are now 64 bit-though support both 32 bit as well as 64 bit OS. Even if you're using 4GB of RAM, a 32bit OS will use 3.2GB only as you described, and that too in future, you won't decrease but will probably increase your RAM. Most (if not all) 32 bit programs run without any problems on a 64 bit OS. Speaking of my personal experience, I've been using 64 bit OS's on my P-IV Desktop with 8GB of DDR3 RAM and on my Laptop with 6GB of DDR3 RAM, and haven't faced any problems except a few very old 32bit and 16bit programs. (one I remember was a game named Pocket Tanks-which initially created problems running on my laptop with 64bit OS, but at last I was able to run it with a few compatibility tweakings)
