Looking to buy a 2 or 3 TB HDD tomorrow mainly for storage.
My system: AMD Phenom x4 9650 + gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2HP + 2GB RAM + 1TB WD HDD

How about WD AV-GP 3 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD30EURS)?

Spec sheet: *www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-701250.pdf

It says 3-year limited warranty. What does 'limited' mean?

Planning to buy from flipkart They're selling @ 9k
Do they take it back in case hdd is dead on arrival as the local dealer would? WD AV-GP 3 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD30EURS) - WD: Flipkart.com

Don't get the AV-GP. It is intended for low temperature and low vibration environments such as a DVR.

Get a WD Green instead, at 7.7-8k, which is meant for general PC use.

@OP: if you have got to store critical info then the HDD you mentioned is good.

if not critical, then get the WD Green..

AV-GP is not intended for critical information. It is pretty much a green drive with firmware optimized for use in DVRs and stuff.

For critical data you have reds, blacks and RE drives.

I'm on a WD green. WD green from mid-2012 onwards is very good and reliable. Obviously blacks are a few orders of magnitude more reliable than green drives, the new crop of green drives are both fast and very good.

WD EACS green drives were reported to fail a lot. When Seagate 7200.11 RPM drives fail, do people run around and still say don't buy seagate at all? People need to judge stuff based on model numbers and revs rather than brands. Make your decisions accordingly.
