I am not able to get show desktop icon on the quick launch bar How can I get it

Quick Lauch Bar never loads with windows for a long time respite all of my known attempts. Using XP Home with all updates in a P4 2.4 dual boot with win 98 machine with no other complaint.

Every time i log off,the quick launch bar disappears...i have to manually make it active(rt click taskbar>toolbars>quicklaunch)..this has statrted happening suddenly for last few days...how do i make it stay?plz help.

Please help me guys ............ I formatted my cd rw by mistake. I have done a quick format using the inbuilt Windows XP CD Erase Wizard.
