Before the Ultra 120 I had the Thermalright SI-128 installed - difference in temp was not more than a couple of C :D and before the SI-128 I had a Zalman 7000cu heat sink and the difference between the Zalman and the SI-128 was about 1C :))

At this temperature the HDD should be very hot to touch - have you checked by touching it ? This should be the best confirmation that the HDD is really at this high temperature.
The BEST looking external cases have to be the Vantec Nexstar 3 series - I have 2 of their 3.5" cases - pretty expensive but they are very well made and have a GREAT look.... here is the 2.5" Vantec Nexstar 3 case.....

All SATA HDDs are masters. Each SATA HDD is attached in its own channel. You should get a SATA II HDD and if your mother board does not support SATA II then you should set it as a SATA I drive - this is normally done via a jumper at back of HDD.
The new HDD will be picked up by the BIOS...
