If you have Windows 98 as the only OS installed, then there will be no boot.ini file anywhere. However if you have installed windows 2000 or xp after installing windows 98 then you can find the boot.ini in your root directory of the boot drive.
I think its not such a good idea to bring expensive electronic gadgets from outside. First, we get almost everything here in India with little price difference - at least for the low end stuff anyway. Secondly, you cannot be assured of service in case of repair if you brought the gadget...

@anusoni,
Again i beg to differ. WIndows XP is quite user friendly. As regards support, you can find better support for PCs than for Mac's. Since PC is more widely used here than the MAC.
You can try booting in single user mode which does not require any password. Once you get to the prompt, use the passwd command to reset your password. I am not sure how to do this using fedora core 3.

The only option is to backup your data to a different partition or drive and reformat with Fat32. If the partition contains windows then you need to reinstall windows.
unfortunately, many windows apps need to be reinstalled if you want to run them under xp. This is because they copy files to various system folders and make registry entries during setup. So, you need to redownload and install the apps.
