KOCHI: In a bizarre accident, a woman bled to death after running head-on into a bank's glass door and impaling herself on shards of glass. The incident occurred around noon on Monday at a Bank of Baroda branch along AM road in Perumbavoor town. Though 46-year-old Beena Jiju Paul of Koovapady was immediately rushed to the nearby taluk hospital she was declared brought dead.
Beena's husband Jiju runs an electrical shop at Koovapady and the couple has a daughter and two sons. Eyewitnesses said Beena had gone to the bank's counter and then suddenly rushed back outside, apparently because she had left her scooter keys behind.
"The woman, seemingly unaware of the presence of the transparent door, banged against it and it shattered. It seems she hit her head first. Subsequently, in the shock, she fell on to the broken glass pieces which pierced her body. A major wound visible from outside was in the abdomen area; however, injuries to internal organs are suspected as well. The body has been moved to Kalamassery Medical college for post mortem," a senior police officer said.
Police have collected CCTV footage from the bank. The footage shows the woman turn around from the counter and rush back only to slam into the door and then collapsing onto the floor. Though she immediately stood up, she started to bleed and those in the bank helped her into a chair. The woman remained seated in the chair for a couple of minutes as the others went out seeking help. The woman can be seen profusely bleeding onto the floor in a video that has since circulated widely.
Case of unnatural death
In less than five minutes Beena was taken to a hospital after being wrapped in a sheet of cloth. Perumbavoor police reached the spot and conducted inquest proceedings.
Police said that they have registered a case of unnatural death. An autopsy report is awaited to find out the exact injuries that the woman sustained which led to her death.
Mini Jose, Beena’s cousin, said that the funeral will be delayed as the family is awaiting her oldest daughter to return from Mangaluru where she is pursuing a nursing course. Beena’s youngest son is in eighth standard.

She probably didn't want her scooter get stolen by the Pastor...

I am the master of my Fate.
The door glasses are tough...not easy to crack from a knee. Might be the poor quality of glass.

Death is uncertain, people can die even just from a small fall at the door, and survive from a deadly accident also.

I have had that happen to me when I recently moved to new apartmnent. The cleaner guy cleaned the glass door so well, it felt as if there was nothing infront of me. Really hit my nose that day, fortunately no broken bones or bleeding.

I think glass doors need to be mandatorily tinted.
