Negative Experience Did i just get scammed by eBay scammer?

So i bought a graphic card last week from eBay from seller called smartphone_wear
Yesterday i got a call from an eBay representative, called Ravi Kumar Ph No. 9874848282 telling me i have won assured gift congrats blah blah. I was asked to select a prize from several electronics. I choose the iPhone 7.

I was suspicious, but then they said that i was selected from among several buyers and they even said that i recently bought a graphic card for xyz amount. So i kinda trusted them since it seemed legit. But they had a condition that i had to make a purchase worth Rs5000 and above in their name. I decided to buy a 2TB USB HDD worth Rs5950 I asked to do payment via PayTM so i made two monetary transactions.
One worth Rs5000
Other worth Rs950
Both to this phone number 80135541084

Now today this morning they call me up and ask me to pay Rs11,000 for GST for the iPhone prize . I refused and i asked for some proof that they are legit from EBay.

I think i am fooled and can anyone advice me ho i can get my Rs5950 back. Can i take some action via eBay since they have my private information like what items i bought (or maybe eBay gave these info to them)

You made the transaction by paytm, ebay cant do shit. Ask paytm to revert the transaction, or your bank to create a chargeback request (very unlikely if u arent using an international bank card).
You should atleast post details about authenticity of deal in the forum before making such purchases.

IMO eBay can't do anything, unless you didn't receive the product as promised. The scammer could've gotten the product & its related info from the seller (which we won't know 100% sure) or from you without your knowledge (maybe if you're active on social media) or the 3rd person like the product & price/address/contact details based on the shipping details present on the package box.

Your best bet is to check with PayTM explaining the scenario of what happened to you - but they're unlikely to revert the amount back, as you've wantedly recharged that number. You should contact that person, collect some details/record conversations to prove that, they're indeed a scam to file FIR or go via legal way.

ebay can only meddle in when you make transactions through them, dude. why you responded such way to a suspicious call from an unknown person.

people normally don't even like to take banking service via fone when an unknown person calls as bank representatives these days.

The PayTm number u have paid to is definitely fake, log a police complaint to your nearest place.

And remember one thing: Caveat Emptor
There is NO condition in an assured gift. (Not related to fullfilling monetary transaction to get it).

A Gift is a Gift which is priceless, and is given at no cost.

I also got such calls in the past of collecting the assured gift, and once u reach there they will brainwash u to buy there non-sense money doubling policies.

How did he get my number and my transaction history. The blame should go to the ebay seller who literally sold my private information to scammers

These scams are performed by internal employees or the warehouse guys. They are usually some low level employees that get the order details and make calls on their own end. The same was going on with HomeShop18. Some employees would leak the info and try to lure the buyer to send money via PayTM.

In your case, it's either the seller's employees or maybe even the shipping guys.

Take it as a learning experience.Nothing in this world comes for free.If next time somebody tells you to get iPhone 11 by paying 10k then you would be knowing better.

The best you can do is to put so many negative reviews of the seller, that atleast it defame them. But yea, it's your fault to fall for such scam. Paying via paytm to some personal number! No one can save you from that unfortunately.

Well there are people who even give OTP on phone to persons claiming to be from bank so...

Encountered such people, if they are old and not tech savvy, then its fine. Its our duty to teach them that, but there are stupid "tech savvy" youngsters that make this mistake too. Darwin award goes to them.

You just can't blame the seller for selling your info...the whole world is selling private data..including the Telecom companies.
Have u ever wondered how the Credit card companies and Personal loans agents get your name and mobile number ? how the Charity Trust gets your details ?
They all buy from every source they can get into.

if you have recordings of the phone call, you can give it to ebay and also to police for fir. and see if anything happens.

Guys, i just called them up.
The same reciever picked up, i recognise his voice. He askes me my name and my registered number and i gave him.
Then you know what he said?
" Aapne complain kia tha na? " (i did send an email to my GPU seller threatening to contact the police"
I replied " maine seller ke yaha complain kiya"
And he says " sorry kuch nahi milega" and hangs up

When i try to call back he cuts the call.

I think this pretty much proves that the seller and the scammer are the same.

His number is 098748 48282
Guys plz convince him to refund my money
