Hi! Guys. Two days no internet.

Borrowed airtel from my cousin, it seems like it's locked. I can't keep on use his sim, I need to give it back. How can I hack/unlock and use my bsnl sim?

I tried google, but till now couldn't find a solution.

Dongle info:
Airtel
ZTE MF667 HSPA+

Used a software hoping to unlock, but seems like I need to pay for that. I thought it's a freeware.
I don't know why this software says a different model no.

DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.1299

In the link given by whitestar in that thread, download links are dead. :(
And one link posted by you, again links are dead. :(

Finally, internet is up. I am googling and watching videos about unlocking. Nothing seems clear.
- Model mentioned in the product (MF667) and the information given by dc unlocker client (MF190) is contradicting. Skeptical to use MF190's fix.

Left one is from airtel tool/app and the right one is from dc unlocker client

And this application port and diagnostic port change all the time, it's com6 in airtel software but it dcunlocker it's com 4. I clicked something called "read nv backup" in a software called "qualcomm writer", now it's com 7. Does it change all the time? or Did I screw up by clicking "read nv backup"?

Seems like the old "ahem" version does not correctly detect MF667.Newer versions should detect it correctly.
help to unlock zte mf 667 - DC-unlocker
Try posting in their forums for why it is showing a different model for your modem even when using newer version than the above thread. It may be possible that your MF667 has a similar/same firmware as MF190 but only dc unlocker people can confirm it.

I recommend spending ~Rs.250 to get it unlocked from a good mobile shop unless you have a credit card/select debit cards to buy credit for dc unlocker.

Okay, I will ask them in their forum.

When I bought this dongle, I asked if I can use it with other sim card and he (@ airtel ) said yes. I didn't expect I had to undergo this many things to use other sim card :) I see if I can contact him and ask if he knows any solution for this.

BTW, there is this solution for airtel but for MF190U

With the use of qualcomm writer, I get to this page and search for MF667 and there are lot of versions. Found two versions closer to mine. One's firmware is same as mine, but different operator. Other one is airtel but different firmware. :(

I am told to go ahead with unlocking, so it's okay to run the tool despite it's showing different model no.

And I asked if I can run that qualcomm writer and I am told not to as "flashing" is risky and they couldn't help if anything went wrong. Though I have heard the term "flashing", didn't know the meaning (or not completely understood what it is) and still don't know. :|

Now to access unlock tool in dc unlocker, I need 7 credits which is about 530/-. Now I am thinking whether I should spend this 500/- and get it fixed or look for some other option.

Yes!Try local shops as directly converting credits to rupees will always be costlier.Flashing basically means upgrading existing device firmware or completely replacing it with a new one.

Asked Airtel, and they too suggest to get it unlocked from local shops and suggested price is Rs. 80/- Thinking of going today evening and get it done. Hopefully they don't brick mine :Fingerx:

UNLOCKED

Couldn't find time in weekdays. So the delay...

It cost me 150/- (quotation ranged from Rs. 150 - 500/-). Cost more than I expected, but I don't seem to have any other choice. So went for it, it was 10-15 min job. The person who did the unlocking kinda not sure, but assured me that he did unlock the modem. First thing I did when I reached home was checking if it's working alright.

Yes, it's unlocked. But I am kinda feeling some issues, though not sure about it. Airtel dashboard recognized the sim card and even connected though with no settings change (settings are locked, I don't think I have an option to edit it to other operator). After that Airtel dashboard keeps crashing/hanging and finally I uninstalled and looked up online and found two hacked dashboards. Both recognized the sim card and connected without any configuration change by me. Once I closed the dashboard, I couldn't able to connect it again and I had to remove and re plug the modem to make it work. I don't remember if there was any instances like this before with Airtel.

Snapshot of the tools I used. For about 5 min/15MB usage, I was charged Rs. 40/-. I shouldn't have tried to check without a data pack :)

If anyone ask me, I would sure suggest them to go for unlocked version rather than going through all of this to unlock a modem. Some modems may have a simpler unlocking option, but not mine. :whew_NF:
