Requirements for Mobile:-

2. Display type and size:5"-5.7"
3. Dual sim: not necessary

5. What camera option you want: Any decent camera
6. Preferred operating system: Android
7. Preferred connectivity options: 3G or 4G
8. Primary use of handset: multimedia and internet

9. Any specific mobile phones in consideration
Samsung Note 3- its 2 years old but specs are still good I believe, only con is no 4G
HTC Desire 826- Newer Model, latest specs, but small battery capacity
Moto X(2nd gen)- great specs and features, but again small battery capacity
Oneplus one- Its a newer company, so not too sure about servicing and support

any more models and suggestions are welcome

I'm coming from a Nexus 4, so I hope the above choices is better than the N4.

Budget for tablet is 15k

I have to decide between the Asus Fonepad 8 and Mi Pad, the only con on the Mi is the lack of gps, other than that its perfect.

P.S: I was about to buy the Note 4, but also need a tablet now, so reduced my budget for the phone :)

With a budget of 30k the only phone comes to mind is Note 4 man. You can use a coupon and buy from Ebay India at roughly around 30-31k I think. Nothing could even come close.

No idea about Tablet.

Yea, its cheaper on eBay but the only problem is no manufacturer warranty, they provide seller warranty..

Yeah mate, that's a problem indeed. I was scared when I went for mine too, but well had faith on luck and here I am after 8 months without any problem whatsoever. One thing you should keep in mind, that Samsung will service your phone regardless of warranty, as long as you show them an Invoice and pay the fee. So I really wouldn't bother that much, but then again my luck rarely betrays me.

Why not a Sony Xperia Z2?? It has great battery life
Sony Xperia Z2 Price in India - Buy Sony Xperia Z2 White 16 Online - Sony : Flipkart.com

Sony Xperia Z2 battery life test - GSMArena Blog

Also Sony is still supporting more than 2 years old Xperia Z, so Z2 will surely be supported for 2 more years (2 more major android upgrades, M & N). Although Sony isn't as fast as Nexus, Motorola or even Samsung in terms of time taken to get updated, but still.....

5.1.1 roll out began yesterday for Z3 & Z2 at some regions

As far as tablet is concerned, Asus fonepad 8 which bssunil suggested is good
Mi Pad is better than that but lacks cellular connectivity
(Why do you need GPS in a tablet? You will have a smartphone for navigation, which is easier to carry around)

Ok will look at the z2, I recently bought the aqua m4 for my father its got decent performance but a bit pricey, though I really liked sony's sleek design. Z2 is definitely under consideration, what about Z3 compact?

And as for the tablet, I decided on the mi pad ..just ordered it today morning, like you said I realised I wouldn't need GPS/3g if I got my phone on me ..need to buy a case and screen guard now.

If you want a compact device, Z3 Compact is great (I own it)

You mention 5"-5.7", that's why I didn't mention it
If you are ok with bigger sized phones, get Z2

Why would he go for an old flagship? I mean yes that's a valid reason as long as the price difference is huge! Z3 is selling at less than 30k on eBay! Besides the display on Z2 is below average, I mean it isn't spectacular on Z3 either but much better than Z2!

OP needs to decide where he will compromise, is it software, or hardware, if it is hardware then he can go for XZ3, but if its the former then Note 4 is a MUCH better choice than Z3, from ALL angles but the software.

I guess Z3 below 30k is a imported device with seller warranty & not everyone is ok with that

I agree than Note 4 is better than Z3 in all respects (even software, Lollipop update ain't laggy for Touchwiz)

Yep, note 4 is an amazing device on all aspects, its only touchwiz that's bothering me, I've noticed that touchwiz on galaxy S6 is a lot more toned down and easier on the eye, I wonder why it wasn't updated for the note 4 :/ ...

And what baffles me is that the note 3 is still priced around 28k..

I'm planning to wait a few weeks, since new launches are imminent (Oneplus, Note 5 etc), hopefully older flagships might see a price drop..

PS: got the mi pad today, so that'll keep me occupied for a while
