Hi, I'm looking to buy a 1Ton 3 Star Split AC for my home.

I checked out local electronics shops here, but can't make up my mind which brand to go for?

I have heard people saying to avoid LG and Samsung in case of AC's. So how is Bluestar, Daikin, Hitachi, Voltas, Whirlpool etc?

My dad is looking forward for Voltas, but somewhere in the internet I read it has records of numerous breakdowns.

Which brand would you guys suggest according to your experience?

In this order,
Daikin
O-General
Blue Star
Hitachi

I'd stay away from Voltas at any cost, I don't care how great they are.

Personally I've only two in my home, one Hitachi, one Carrier, both are working fine, the latter is more than a decade old.

O general
People would say Daikin and O general are same...But something I found out made me say this. O general has Hypertropical compressor in all its models which helps it cool faster even at 50'c....No doubt it is the king of middle east.
Plus I have been using it for past 6 years. No breakdown, gas topup done once, only periodic cleaning and service done.

Incase you find any model in Daikin with hypertropical compressor,do let me know, because I am waiting for O general stocks to come since the last 15 days. I would be happy to swithc over to Daikin. They are similar in every other respect, with daikin being a lot better with after sales.

In any case, stay away from LG,Samsung or Voltas ****. I am sorry if I offended any owners. Reason I am being so harsh with my words is that my dad's hard earned money went down the drain when we opted for LG in 2012 and Voltas immediately after.
LG 1.5 Ton 5 Star was bought for about Rs 50000.After 3 days PCB went kaput. Then the blower arm broke. This damn thing broke some 4 times. Compressor was also changed twice within a year. Literally,I had to sleep in the drawing room during summer which houses 6 years old O general !!
We sold it to the dealer for 20k after 8 months. We could not use it even for a day during that period.

As the dealer was a good friend of ours,he got us VOltas,as he stocked only those two products.
No bad experiences with Voltas Service, but again, its compressor went bad at the end of season. We sold it on Quikr after replacing it. The last news I got was that the unit was sold off by the person also as something was malfunctioning time and again.

We have used Blue Star,O general and Hitachi. No problems whatsoever. Hitachi had a good product, but pathetic after sales service. O general never required any service till date except periodic cleaning, while BlueStar also had a similar life as O general, except Gas Recharges were a bit more frequent.

I am sold to HAIER, why????...... bought a windows AC like 6 years back, used it like a maniac, with only ONE service done in 6 years (That too ONLY cleaning and NO gas refill) its still going strong, even though the outer shell is broken, the compressor is as strong as a V6 engine :D, giving chilling air. I then bought HAIER Split AC previous year ( around March) and it also is going super strong ...... I now am about to purchase another 1.5 TON AC for my HT and again my trust will go with HAIER .....

Even though I have never used or seen Haier in my surroundings,I must say I have seen loyal owners of the same. Always heard good things bout the same.

listen bhai........... Haier is all chinese , though uses copper but the thickness is always a concern and mainly uses old R22 refrigerant . But MITSUIBISHI , O GENERAL AND DAIKIN uses new and more efficient R410A and R32 refrigerant . try googling for advantage of these. You can get MITSUIBISHI 3 star in kolkata as low as Rs. 37000/- + installation. and DAIKIN as low as 34000 - 35000/-. If u want long run of service trust these.........not the SHARP CRAP.......

I saw some sharp inverter models and not at all impressed,
it looks too much..what to say, like ugly and a fat thing
Take Ogeneral, it has a simple plain and a professional look,
since 1997 using ogeneral
have a total of 3 split ogeneral ac's
no issues, gas never refilled
newly mitsubishi heavy electric ac's came but the front is not at all attractive, full of names of the brand and tech etc,etc unpleasing lights...
my friend has a lg with autoclean and every 6 months the company fellow itself refills gas saying it is mandatory for optimal cooling
many ac's say some turbo mode and many auto clean and etc etc,
ogeneral has only cool/dry/fan/heat and high/med/low/quiet modes in remote and swing operations and time & timer settings, no other crap fancy things

what it claims is true "Super Power, Super Quiet"

the world trade center uses the Fujitsu General AIRSTAGE ac's, i.e. ogeneral in india
(166 systems consisting of 496 outdoor units and 2,142 indoor units) to “World Trade Center Changzhou” which made the grand opening on September 29.

Im using two Sharps, the non inverter split model is around 8 years old running without a hiccup and the Inverter is running without any trouble for the last 2 years. And they chill like hell. But Sharp is a premium brand and dosnt make star rated split acs,so your choice should be a Hitachi or Daikin. I wont ever buy a General again in my life because of its pathetic after sales service in Kolkata. Trane acs is coming ti Kolkata soon. They make the best acs in the world. And what ever these generals and daikins and hitachis are doing today are all invented or mastered by Trane. Visit their website for further details.

Well I am also using O'General for the past 3 years serviced once a year and both running rock solid as of now.
But what I am saying to OP is that if he can get a bit better service in his place compared to O'General since I have one complaint with them ie lack of trained staff for service purposes. Local guys I don't trust them a lot.
