Budget Home PC

Right off the assembly line
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: This is for general home use (browsing, music, hi-def movies), light gaming(football manager) and lots of memory intensive programming. A lot of services/applications run in parallel. I was looking to buy an apple mac mini but dropped due to budget constraints. but would prefer a small profile/slim PC

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 25k-30k including a 19-20" monitor

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:Have a 1 TB HDD

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: 19-20" monitor

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: I will not need a HDD, KB, mouse, speakers

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Immediately

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Yes

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Chennai. I will buy either from Ritchie St or Online - whichever is cheaper

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Im looking for a small profile PC (maybe not as small as a mac mini but atleast a micro ATX profile)

Thanks Bavusani.

Couple of questions -
1. Since I will not be using it for graphics intensive gaming, would you still recommend HD7770 or does it make sense to go for cheaper GPU?
2. Any recommendations on a slim case?
3. I had narrowed down AMD FX6300 as the CPU to go for. Any reason for recommending Intel i3?

Thanks,
Prasanna

Intel Core i5 4440 -12300,

Antec VP450P -2600,
Dell E2014H 19.5" LED -6500,
Local cabinet - 700

you dont need gpu at all. igpu will suffice. i5 will help in running many applications parallel.

EDIT:
forgot to mention that, get dell s2240l at 8.6k than the mentioned one if you can slightly increase your budget.

Thanks rijinpk1. The i5 config seems to be the most likely that I'm going to go with. Any recommendations for a slim case (e.g. Antec ISK 310-150) for this config?

see if you can get this. Antec - Minuet 350
it has inbuilt psu, so you can skip the vp450p , however upgrades(like gpu) will be very limited.
