Okay here's the deal. A friend of mine need to make a new PC for 40k. He can stretch the budget to 45k. He just needs the CPU. So guys plz help me.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: GAMING. He's not a hardcore gamer, but the main use is going to be gaming. He also says he'll use some animations. He asks something that'll be able to run current games like crysis 3.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 40k preferred. 45-46k max

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No. He's scared of the word. LOL!

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1 TB min

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Already has a monitor. 24". 1366*768. Not gonna change for some time.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Just want to buy the CPU. No Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers etc.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: As soon as the specs are finalized.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Lives in Jodhpur (Rajasthan), but can buy from online stores.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: He wants to use two OS. Win 7 and Mac. I have no idea how he's gonna do that, but is it recommended? Smells fishy to me. :/

24" monitor with a resolution of 1366x768? You better check it again.

FX 8350 (12000)
Asus M5A97 R2.0 (7100)
G.Skill 1600 MHz 4 GB (2400)
WD Blue 1 TB (4000)
Seasonic S12II 430W (3600)
NZXT Gamma (2600)
Asus GTX660 (16000)

total: ~47k

Add some cabinet fans too.

> IF the reported monitor size is incorrect but the resolution is correct, GTX660 should be replaced with HD7770 and anything above it will be a waste at that resoultion.

I think OP should opt for Sapphire HD 7870 which is retailing around 17K and better performer than GTX 660.

The budget cannot exceed 45k guys. Also there is a new mobo in flipkart. The Asus M5A97 E. I think it costs 6.3k. What do you guys suggest?

I suggested him to go with the Fx 6300 and AMD HD7850. I think the 7850 ought to be good enough for him. What do you guys think about the proccy?

The rig suggested by Harshil is as good as you can get for that money ,dont look elsewhere or you will seriously mess. FX6300 and HD7850 is no match for the FX8350 and HD7870/GTX660 combo.

I know that very well, but the cost of that rig is higher than the maximum budget. Don't get me wrong. His budget is just 40k. He'll be struggling to arrange anything above that. Try to keep the cost around 40-43k. 45k only when it's worth the trouble.

@harshilsharma63 his monitor is 1366*768, but he'll be attaching it to his TV for gaming at 1080p.

Well, he told me that his monitor is 24". He must be exaggerating. :/

^ replace fx 8350 with with fx 6300 and you are done :). See if you can get hd 7870. And a few cabinet fans in without saying :)

Perfect. I'll forward him these specifications. Thanks a bunch! ;)

Edit: I had a talk with him. He wants an Intel rig. I think we can get some i3s at the range of the FX6300 right? Can someone suggest one? Also which is recommended? Intel or AMD? :/

FX 6300 >>> i3 3220. Additionally, an i5 will cost around 18k for cpu+board.

I told him the same thing, but he doesn't listen. Orthodox douche. Anyways, I'll share this with him. Thanks guys!
I'm getting the same, i3 3220 :D But then that's because I plan to upgrade to i5 soon enough so I want compatible MoBo (sidenote: Yeah plus I'm an orthodox douche too)

If the monitor resolution is 1900x1020 for 24" monitors which is usual then you can certainly go for HD7850 but if the monitor resolution is 1366x768 which is usual for 20" monitors then HD7790 is enough.

You can go for FX6300 instead of FX8350 thereby reduce cost.

Final Config:
AMD FX 6300 (7000)
Asus M5A97 R2.0 (7100)
Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz 4 GB (2500)
WD Black 1 TB (5500)
Seasonic S12II 520W (4800)
NZXT Source Elite 210 (2900)
Sapphire HD7850 2GB (15500)
Coolermaster 120mm 2 RED LED fans (900)
TOTAL -46200
