Laptop for multi-tasking under 60k

Hi

My friend is looking for a laptop for basic usage (Browsing, MS Office, and some movies). He is specifically looking for SSD based laptops for faster boot-up, opening applications etc

1) What is your budget? (INR or USD)
70000 (Can increase the budget to 80000 if its really worth or if 256GB SSD is possible instead of 128)

2) What size & weight consideration (if any) would you prefer?
14" screen

3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
a. Like:Sony, Dell
b. Dislike: No idea. May be Brands with poor After Sales Support (Nothing in particular)

4) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Browsing, MS Office, Downloading and Watching movies (90% DVD Rip and 10% Blu-Ray rip)

5) What screen resolution(s) & type (glossy/matte) would you prefer?
No idea. Any resolution comfortable for DVD-RIP movies and Browsing
This is where I'm really confused. To watch normal 700MB DVD-RIPs do we really need high-res display (900p or 1080p)?

6) Anything else you would like to say? (eg: local purchase, ASS,matte/glossy finish)
SSD is an important criteria for him though I'm not sure if SSD really gives better experience for his usage than 7200rpm HDD .

Also I'm really wondering if SSD caching (Intel SRT) will help in this case

Experts, your advise please

I am thinking to suggest him to go for Dell Inspiron 14z which has 128GB SSD though his preference is 256GB

Experts, Please help me out in advising my friend. I don't want him to bug me after he buy any laptop. He is relying on my suggestion and I'm relying on yours

Thanks
Visak

Sorry, I have posted a wrong title. Its actually 70k

Take a look at the HP folio. 13.3 inches for SSD and portability.

Also the new dell inspiron series (15R,14R special editions) for full HD screens

HP Folio 13 has only 13 inch screen. Further it has only 128GB SSD

Dell Inspiron 14R and 15R/SE doesn't have SSD option. Does it?

Is there any 14 inch laptop with SSD option in the market? If so can anyone please let me know. As far as I know, we have HP Envy 14 Spectre, Dell XPS 14 which are costly

Oh you want full ssd !! 256 gb ssd's will lost a looot. The only options I know are the spectre, zenbook, macbook air, samsung series 9,etc but they will cost a lot !!

Can you tell me whether ssd caching is really helpful? I mean can we see considerable difference between HDD + ssd caching and 7200RPM HDD in normal applications (opening ms excel, word, browsers, movie playback etc)?

Thanks for your suggestions

According to my info ssd cache will speed up booting up and so only. Your files are still in the hdd so loading them and so will still be slow. Still I'm not sure. Maybe more experienced members can answer :-?

I don't think there will be any new(or old for that matter) 256 GB SSD devices available in that range.

They usually cost 1 lac+ easily.

The best option for you will be a Macbook Air, and if you want to buy a windows laptop only then buy Sony VAIO S Series SVS13112EN and replace the HDD with a SSD yourself.

Can we replace ssd in laptops ourselves? Is it easy? I thought we can't do that

In that case I can go for any laptop with 14 inch and i5 processor and replace ssd. Thats really great. But will it void warranty? and if

Yes it is easy, not at all a difficult task, for more info you can take the help of google and youtube.
If you don't want to void the warranty then ask the service centre guys( or the showrom guys from whom you buy it) to replace it for you and right the same on the bill or some paper

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. Just one more question

In HDD, we have different size for laptop and desktop. Similarly will size differ for Laptop SSD and Desktop SSD?

Thanks again for your inputs. Really helpful

SSD is different technology, there is no such desktop and laptop SSD, there comes only one type of SSD.
And I think they can't be connected to desktop

Thanks for your inputs. I need to check with Sony and Dell if they can do that (Replacing SSD). Or if its possible to have SSD along with HDD that will be great but I don't there will be any extra bay in laptop to have both SSD and HDD. Am I right?

@aroraanant

SSDs are for both laptops and desktops. No difference in size, just that for desktops you need to use the 3.5" bracket that comes with the SSD.

@terrafield

Sony/Dell will not replace HDD with SSD for you. You have do it yourself. Yes its possible to have both an SSD as well as HDD in laptops that have twin hard disk bays. Mostly 15 inch gaming and 17 inch notebooks have dual hard drive bays. But most don't.

Thanks for your inputs. Could you please let me know if any of the following models have dual bay?

Dell Inspiron 15R SE
Dell Inspiron 17R SE
Dell XPS 15
Samsung Series 5 550P 15 inch

Thanks
