[Complaint] To All Who Bought Alto K10(Also Pathetic Maruti Onroad Service)

Back to school!!
Problem:
Hi, my family purchased an Alto K10 Vxi last year, around march I think, just after launch, anyway a few days back I suffered from a terrible problem with the car, I was driving down the road normally(flat road, no climb), had 2 passengers in car, suddenly I heard a massive noise from the back of the car and then there was no power going to the wheels, everything else was ok, the speedometer kept rising when I accelerated in gear, so I called the maruti onroad assistance(all india toll free), then the fun started.

Maruti All India Toll Free No. Service:
I called and registered a complaint, they did not take my car reg no, just took my name and problem and location, said I'd get a call in 10 minutes, after 30 minutes had passed I called them again, they said that no complaint was registered, took my car no. and registered a new complaint, again 20 mins later called and this time they asked my for my complaint token, as I said I didn't receive any, they said no complaint registered :-x, again registered a complaint, 20 mins later I got pissed off and called the local service center guys(Mohan Motors Kolkata).

Mohan Motors Kolkata:
Now praise to them(Mohan Motors kolkata) they sent a car in 10 mins flat, guy checked the problem, and said something is wrong with the crank shaft, had to get the car to the service center.

Anyway I got a call next day and they said my wheel axle* was broken, I was like WTF :muttering:, this isn't a pick up truck, less than 2500kms driven, 1 yrs time, and not a single scratch on the car, always driven conservatively, never went over 90, or over 3.5k rpm.

Anyway they said there was a Manufacturing Defect with the first few lots of the cars and their wheel axle would give in after some time, and although they had a list if the cars affected, they never bothered doing a recall, now what if I had faced the problem during a long road trip or at mid night in nowhere :pullhair: :banghead:

Anyway they are claiming that it has been fixed, but I don't trust this car anymore, this is my last car from maruti, next time I will pay a bit extra and get eon or spark.

And also I would ask you guys of two things:

1. Can anyone having contacts in maruti verify the story that they had given me, whether this is a manufacturing defect or was it actually an event of their pathetic quality control?

2. Has anyone owning an alto K10 ever faced such an issue?

I wouldn't have freaked out if the clutch paddle had a defect, or the drive by wire gear shifter cord snapped, but the wheel axle is a very imp part of a car and I can't imagine it braking down, much less for a small hatchback.

*PS: They reported the issue to my father who can't recall the exact term they used, I think its the wheel axle that broke as the speedometer was working but no power went to the wheels(could it be the crank shaft?), I'm no car expert so can't say the exact name of the problem till I take the delivery of the car.

Time to sell this cr@p and buy Spark :-D

Only good experience I had during this entire event is from Mohan Motors Kolkata, they sent a service car in 10 mins, and when I reached the service center they took the car within 10 mins and got it fixed by the next day.

This!! Convince your parents. Or buy mid-end BMW with the earned money of your own. ;) No fully problems, no sh!ts. :bananana:

P.S. I and none of my family never used any Maruti car. SO I can share absolutely no experience with you about the service quality of Maruti. :-(

That's sad! the number of cars Maruti sell is more that any other company simply because of the ease of maintenance & service....or atleast this is what people think. But if you had such a horrible experience with their service...I can't imagin what it would had been incase of other manufacturer like chevrolet.

Btw, I am using Estilo since 2007 and I have not faced any such defect, rather in 2010 once my car started creating some sound from front suspension on bumps and I took it to the authorized service station...and they replaced the part without any cost as it was still under warranty :D

I think your car's Drive-shaft failed and broke. It is sometimes possible to happen like this, if you happen to drive your car in a rough katcha road on a regular basis.

And if it is a manufacturing defect, get it replaced at Maruti Dealer for FREE.

It cannot be crank shaft, its the most delicate part and is inside the Engine.

I use an Indica Vista Sapphire. 3 Yrs 25K km driven. Thrown in 6-7 passengers at times and running like a Charm.

ps: Don't Buy Spark. My boss owns one and I can tell you its not that Great. Go for Swift (Yeah Maruti) or Micra or i10 or if you want rugged and more space then Vista.

ps: I work in R&D of TATA so you can take my word on Cars at least ;)

Yes, the drive shaft broke, they replaced it for free, as they said 28 cars had a manufacturing defect and would replace it when they come for service, I was landed with one of those cars unfortunately.

Actually Maruti Suzuki has very high standards set when it comes to servicing... but these kind of issues happen now and then..

Just drop a formal email to the RSM (Regional Service Manager) explaining the events.. He should be able to sort this out..

Old thread, issue was fixed, but on road service was pathetic, my last maruti, going to buy a beat at the end of the year.

Good thing you discovered the issue soon enough. Biggest mistake people do is buy multiple vehicles at the same time and leave one at the garage, using it sparingly on weekends and issues are discovered only after the warranty expires.

its so sad to hear...infact the only reason you had to suffer something like this is because this is india...any other country...you would have been given a replacement the moment it came out...in your case from what i know maruti ended up using undersized shafts on a few mobile's accidently which thankfully they realized and are changing it free of cost

This is outrageous. They knew that 28 cars had manufacturing defect and yet they did not bother to call up the owner of the cars and ask them to get a free replacement.
Even I'm a proud owner of a Maruti car and service has always been top-notch till date. If I see any problems, I write a mail to the customer care on their website. Rest assured you'll get a prompt response and action within few hours.

I believe it is total negligence on the part of the company to wait for the customers to get the cars to the service center. The owners should have been informed of the problem. As you pointed out earlier, you might have gotten in trouble had you taken it out out of the city for a long drive.

If you are interested to take this up further, you can raise a complaint by using the services of Akosha. I have seen a lot of positive reviews about this site where they resolved many customer complaints.

Is there a thread here where I can post my queries regarding maruti servicing in kolkata ?

I am looking for some tried and tested reliable maruti authorized service centres.
Got a few repairing and replacement jobs pending. :(
