Nvidia GPU for my sorry AMD x2 245 PC

Hi,

I have a PC in which I want to install an Nvidia based GPU mostly for learning CUDA programming and some mild gaming. I have a monitor with a resolution of 1280x1024.

Now I have two main questions:

1. Will a GTS 450 based GPU bottleneck my system. If Yes, Which GPU should I opt for?

2. If No, will the one having 1 GB DDR3 memory give a vey low performance compared to the one with 1 GB DDR3 memory. I found these on flipkart. Can you please help me choose?
Flipkart: Galaxy NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1 GB DDR3 Graphics Card: Graphics Card
Flipkart: Sparkle NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card: Graphics Card

I know that GDDR5 will be much faster but owing to the price difference around 1000 bucks between the two, and my tight budget, I started thinking.

Also, I need to buy a PSU for the entire setup. The catch is that I have, in fact, 3 HDDs (80 GB, 500 Gb and a 320 Gb laptop HDD, all SATA) included in the setup. But I don't want to spend more than 2000 Rs for the PSU being on a tight budget.

And I live in Mumbai (Thane to be exact). so can you guys mention the prices of these components here in Mumbai and the best shops to buy them from. Also if you guys have any suggestions regarding a different company/flavor of the card, they are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Arun

GTS450 will be perfect for your PC. any sub10k GPU will be enough. get the GTS450 1Gb GDDR5 version. you may also look for GT550Ti as it cost just 900 more. though its not worth that if gaming is top priority.

for PSU get Corsair CX430W V2 from flipkart @ 2348 only.

Even if I want to play better games, will my processor not bottleneck my GPU? I've experienced the same when few years ago I clubbed my AMD Athlon 3000 with GT 8600. What's the difference between these two?
Flipkart: Zotac NVIDIA Geforce GTX 550 Ti 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card: Graphics Card
Flipkart: Sparkle NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550Ti 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card: Graphics Card

for PSU get Corsair CX430W V2 from flipkart @ 2348 only.
And will it suffice all my requirements? Including the GPU and three HDDs as I mentioned in my original post.

NO. Most games need a fast dual core (or tri/quad core) + a fast GPU and 3Gb+ ram. even if your processor got only 2 cores, but cause of high clock it won't bottleneck the GTS450.

HDD doesn't need lot of power. 5-7W maybe per HDD. so the PSU will easily support your system.

@ OP - For the PSu you can also consider Corsair VS450 @ 2.1k ;-)

WOW. thats cheap. if i can sell off my FSP Saga II 400W, i'll surely grab this one.

Or FSP Saga II 500W for the same price? :)

FSP = less warranty & lack of proper service center. you'll have to send it back to shopkeeper or Acro Engineer if you purchase from SMC. so best to avoid this.

FSP Saga II cost more and carries less warranty.

Power supply aside, if you are going for GTS 450 then the Sparkle is a better card. For GTX 550 Ti, either one is good.

I know that the sparkle one is good owing to the presence of GDDR5 memory, but what I wanted to know is that whether the performance gain is good enough for the price, since the Sparkle one costs 1000 bucks more.
