Hi,

recently i bought new nokia 5800, and now i want to have WAP service on that by activating GPRS. i am using idea.

when i contacted CC they told that if i opt for any plan the data rate will be same (128 kbps).

is this true..? that i can get 128kbps (i am planning for 49 rs monthly unlimited WAP browsing). is it GPRS or EGPRS they are talking about ?

about WAP applications..

will the following applications support WAP..?

1)Google maps
2)skype
3)fring
4)ebuddy
5)facebook
6)youtube

how can i check whether a application support WAP or not..(any tricks).

And also please share your WAP experiences
will be helpful for new WAP users :)

I get speeds close to 200kbps on Docomo
Check out the last few posts here

Yes, 3G data plans are costly, Just tried the trail pack of Rs.60, I hope prices may come down after private operators jump in. Video calling is cheap though :))

Last time i used WAP access point (airtel NOP ) it was 8 months ago , so i dont remember thoroughly but i think =>

1)Google maps <= dont work
2)skype <= LOL on GPRS ?
3)fring <= never tried / dont waste time with voip
4)ebuddy <= most probably worked
5)facebook <= almost 100% surly works
6)youtube <= works but exp is pathetic due to sloww connection

IMO its much better to opt for airtels 98/mo/2gb connection or something similar . there are many things that dot work well with WAP APN. Most chat app dont work , agps have problem (probably never workd in my case ) Nokia Messaging had problems . skyfire dont work .... WAP is not just worth it
