Just get a SIM with a national SMS enabled plan.
I find Aircel Boomerang Plan (Rs. 49 SIM) to be the best when it comes to addon packs for those who are on mobile a LOT - (Rs. 45/month rental for 1ps/2sec to all local mobile calls, other calls 1ps/sec, Rs. 73/month rental for unlimited EDGE Internet, Rs. 22/month rental for 100 SMSes/day to ANY mobile in India.
