You need luck not brand to get a problem free drive. Most of the drives I have been using have developed tray problems once they have crossed the warranty period. I have tried Sony, Samsung, LiteOn. I will suggest just get a drive from any brand having SATA port & maybe 22X DVD recording speed. That's enough. Getting a lightscribe drive is pointless due to media availability.

Try LG.....It served me and many of my friends(actually all of my friends) well......!!

All LG DVD Writers are now SATA.

Try it......I'm sure u will b satisfied....!!

u can still use a pin putting in pinhole of drive to open the drive in case of emergency
or there is always an option to open it from windows as u says it works
or u can give it for repairs
or go get a new one for u for just 1.1k or so

But be warned that insert pin into the pinhole only when the drive is not in power mode i.e computer is off. This is a nuisance & will not come to rescue in case you wish to burn a CD/DVD.

Hi friends, my sony dvd rw's open/close butten is not working but I can open the drive by right clicking + eject on dvd drive shown in my computer.....what is the problem.i have cleaned the cabinet too to remove the dust ....also my cpu is showing 100% load most of the time ...even if few app's r running......

1. That is weird. Could you disconnect the optical drive and check the 100% CPU usage..?

2. Also disconnect all optical drive connectors and put them back again.

But please do (1) first, and report back the usage. It should not be there, 100% always. There could some other issue...

after i cleaned up the dust , disconnects and reconnects the cables....cpu performance is idle again(load not more than30-35% now normally below than said)...that's why i haven't posted any screen shot regarding this..,...map be dust is causing this.....

so finally it's time to replace dvd writer.....
